WrathOfHan
How PGA lineups with the Oscars: 2016: 9/9 2015: 7/8 (Room was missing) 2014: 7/8 (Selma was missing) 2013: 8/9 (Philomena was missing) 2012: 8/9 (Amour was missing) 2011: 7/9 (Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and The Tree of Life were missing) 2010: 9/10 (Winter's Bone was missing) 2009: 8/10 (The Blind Side and A Serious Man were missing) 3B/GO/LB/Post/SOW/Dunkirk are all definitely safe. CMBYN needed this nomination, but the weak SAG performance still raises some red flags. I, Tonya and The Big Sick got a big boost from this. Molly's Game is in the running for a nomination, but without Chastain, I don't think it can get in. Good for Wonder Woman, but it ain't getting nominated at the Oscars. 7-9 are between Darkest Hour, CMBYN, Tonya, and Big Sick.

I think they ultimately cannibalized any long shot chance they had.

I don't know how you can say Darkest Hour and CMBYN are on the same level now (even with the latter underperforming at SAG). The former is, at best, 12th place (The Florida Project didn't need PGA). It's been missing everything, or getting nothing beyond Oldman. Box office is proving to be irrelevant.
WrathOfHan
I actually just realized there were eleven nominations Yeah, DH and Florida Project have basically no excuse for not showing up here
Cmasterclay
I still go the same way I've said since NBR time - Get Out/Lady Bird/Post/Shape of Water/Three Billboards/Dunkirk/CMBYN/Florida Project. I think Big Sick is actually next in line if there's a ninth. If there's a ninth and Florida Project misses, it'll come down to Tonya or Darkest Hour. WrathOfHan
Current predictions: 1. Three Billboards 2. Get Out 3. Lady Bird 4. The Shape of Water 5. Dunkirk 6. The Post 7. Call Me by Your Name 8. The Big Sick 9. I, Tonya ------------------- 10. Darkest Hour I think Tonya will end up missing screenplay but get into Editing and Makeup. If it follows Dallas Buyers Club directly, it'll get that nomination with both women winning Edited January 5, 2018 by WrathOfHan

Speaking of box office, assuming 9 nominees, no re-release from dunkirk or GO, and Big sick sneak in, 3 of 9 of the nominees at oscar BP are already exited from theater the most since 2011 oscar, meaning bigger market space for existing oscar players? I've been kinda torn on The Florida Project for a while now, mostly because it hasn't been showing up anywhere aside from Dafoe. It feels like the kind of movie that could pull a Room and be that indie that gets in based on passion, but at the same time, I feel like Call Me by Your Name already fills that "emotional indie that voters become attached to" void? I dunno. The strong showing for I, Tonya the past few days makes me think it could easily take its place. Darkest Hour is shaping up to be Crazy Heart 2.0: a Best Actor win, solid box office, a few other nominations (techs instead of a coattail acting nom), and that's it. Kvikk Lunsj
I don’t see Darkest Hour getting nominated for Best Picture. If it was not for Oldman it would have zero buzz.

I would not say that I Tonya is on the same level as Get Out, Lady Bird or 3 Billboards. It doesn't have ensemble SAG nom. Neither has it The Shape of Water. For me, a movie can only be considered SAG nommed with ensemble category So we have four movies leading with 5 mentions: Shape of Water, Lady Bird, Get Out, Three billboards. With 4 guilds mentions: The Big Sick and I, Tonya. With 3 guilds: Dunkirk, The Post, Molly's Game. With 2 guilds: Mudbound, Wonder Woman, Logan, Darkest Hour, Call Me By Your Name.
