pinocchio
No, China need Hollywood. The theatre chains need HLW, the audience need HLW.Of course theatre chains need Hollywood to re-finance their new digital theatres. Overall, China doesn't need those few billions they could earn with Hollywood movies. Give me a break. Your administration will watch the situation. If they come to the conclusion "enough of this Hollywood/western lifestyle influence" they will throw out foreign movies very fast and close the markets again. Things changed a lot my friend, and I'm pretty sure the government dont care too much about that anymore. You can even find more radical lifestyle in here than Hollywood. pinocchio
Look at France. They also protect their markets. They created an own movie industry. And it works. French movies make amazing numbers. China has so much creative potential they can easily substitute Hollywood if they want.Seems the China movie industry just doesn't know there to go right now. Don't know. A Marvel Fanboy
To keep the thousands theatres run, the government would have to allow more HLW movies released in China. Otherwise, theatres will be closed and many people wil lost their jobs. What are you gonna do with those people ? You gotta creat new jobs for them. At this point, ensuring social stability is the most important for the government.Jobs means money and better life for people. And its much bigger deal than the so-called ideologies. Things changed. China has to find solutions for hundreds of millions of people and not just for a few folks that work at a movie theatre. With something like +200 million admissions the China movie market is more or less non-existent compared to western standards. Right now, it's not even a blimp on the radar screen for your administration.

There are 1,600+ theatres now in China and the number will reach 10,000 in less than 10 years. that will directly creat Hundreds of thousands jobs. And it will be millions of you count investments, real estate, advertising, etc. behind that. Moreover, the local movie industry will also benefit from the rapidly growing box office, thanks to the stimulation of Hollywood movies. We are talking about millions of jobs. A Marvel Fanboy
Not even in the USA the movie industry creates "millions of jobs". And they are the worldwide market leaders.
