Offshore audiences are checking in to Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation as rollout expands this weekend. HT3 had already bowed in Australia on June 28 to capitalize on school breaks, and in its first 16 days of release has surpassed the total gross of HT2, setting a franchise record in the market. The Oz cume is $8.56M

On Thursday, Russia led new play and opened with $1.4M and taking No. 1. It came in 180% higher than HT2‘s opening day.

In Latin America, bows were No. 1 across the board. The film has performed 29% above HT2 for Sony’s biggest animated opening day and the 5th biggest Sony opening day of all time in the region. Mexico has HT3 on pace to be Sony Pictures’ second biggest debut behind Spider-Man: Homecoming with $1.4M in Thursday previews. In Brazil, the film has made $839K for best opening day of all time for a Sony animated film, almost three times bigger than HT2’s opening day. Argentina saw the best opening for a Sony Pictures title ever in the region and the 10th best opening in the country of all time.

Should do very well in Latin America (Winter's Holidays + Animation = $$$$$) Don't know about the rest of the world but Russia and Australia look good.

Sony

Taking to the high seas, Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation expanded to 48% of the overseas footprint this session (a total 44 markets) with $46.4M to take the international box office tally to $54.8M for a global total of $100.12M. The threequel set a new record as Sony’s biggest animated opening for the same group of 42 new markets and was No. 1 in 33. This was after beginning rollout two weeks ago in Australia where it has now topped the lifetime of HT2. This weekend was up 7% for a $10.2M cume there. The film got an extra boost during a global media stunt at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

Latin America, which leans into family fare, opened to $23M regionally and No. 1 in all 11 debut markets. The Adam Sandler-led film set regional records as the No. 1 Sony animated opening and the 5th biggest Sony opening of all time. Mexico led with a great $8.6M to rank as Sony’s 2nd biggest bow ever, behind only Spider-Man: Homecoming. Brazil launched to $3.8M, which is 50% ahead of HT2. Other notable debuts include Argentina’s $2.1M for Sony’s biggest opening of all time; and Colombia’s $1.5M for the studio’s 2rd biggest opening ever.

Russia debuted to $5.8M and Spain heated up with $2.7M, beating both Ant-Man And The Wasp (+82%) and Cars 3 (+54%).

Upcoming major markets include Germany, France, the UK, Korea and Italy. The China date is to be set, but will fall after the blackout.

Does this have a shot at $400m?

Yah I think is has a good shot, pretty much locked I imagine. HT2 did 303m OS and 169m DOM.

OS is doing good atm so $300m+ and DOM is also looking at $140m +, I hope it can get to $500m.

I think he meant OS, because WW it's absolutely locked to pass 400M.

500M WW nearly locked, 550+ has a chance.

Makes more sense. If asia respons well to HT3 400m OS should happen.

Opening in China this weekend, Sony’s threequel did $16.9M in a crowded and shifting marketplace. This is the 2nd biggest start for an animated Hollywood title of the year, behind Incredibles 2, and with RMB 116M is about equal to the lifetime of Hotel Transylvania 2 (RMB 118.7M) in just three days. HT3 benefits from being one of the first studio movies back in the market after the July blackout and as a pure family title.

In total this session, HT3 made $28.3M in 60 markets and has cumed $272.1M offshore for $426M worldwide. To pass HT2 globally (in non-adjusted dollars), the film needs about another $47M. Italy and Poland are still on deck.

The Top 5 are currently Mexico ($26.2M), Brazil ($18.7M), Russia ($18.3M), the UK ($18.1M) and China ($16.9M).
