Fans had been asking for a prequel movie involving Harry's parents, Sirius (the Marauders). That set of movie could have easily also included the rise of Voldemort and the first wizarding war ending the series right when HP series began. These set of movies would have a lot of familiar characters plus an actual Hogwarts students setting like the original movies. But instead we got this convoluted mess.

I know many people want something original set in the HP universe with new characters but at least the Marauders and First Wizarding War series would have been better and more exciting for fans than this one.

None of that will happen. If this flops Harry Potter universe won't be touched for another decade or even more.

Dude, we're destined to get some HBO Max spin-off show about Hagrid or whoever announced within the next five years, don't worry.

When that happened with star wars ?

Because the second trilogy was a huge sucess in box office

I never understood why they said from the start that they wanted to make 5 movies. 5 movies about ... Fantastic Beasts? It seemed like the most obvious cash-grab from the start.

I would have loved 2 movies solely about the Beasts with Newt as main character instead. Like, a nice story about the magical animals of the Potter universe in 2 movies that tell a uniqe story. All this stuff with Hogwarts, Dumbledore, Grindelwald ... all this seems like 2 or 3 different series mixed into one.

Reminds me of this comment

the dichotomy of the title still makes me laugh. it's just two totally separate things smashed together. it's like if a movie was called Snow Dogs: The People vs. OJ Simpson.

I feel like there’s been 10 different things since Solo came out.  They keep milking the thing.

Solo flopping killed the whole Star Wars cinematic universe. There are no new movies and who knows when they will actually happen

This flopping will kill Harry Potter universe for a very long time. Don't try to convince yourself otherwise. There is no way WB will invest in another Harry Potter spinoff if this flops.

It's clearly not Solo's fault the lack of movies, the only thing that Solo killed is the Solo franchise.

Five?

Maybe 2 at most. A series set at Hogwarts maybe a few years before Harry shows up. That way they can have the locations and characters people remember without any wizarding war either coming up soon or having just ended.

Cinematic universe would bebdead. They can make cheap HBO MAX shows if they want. Like Disney is making billion shows and half of them are garbage . Who cares about that.

Harry Potter was cinematic experience

WB is not gonna abandon one of their biggest cash cows for even a few years let alone 1-2 decades. They are gonna milk this as much as they can. IF this flops and they abandon the plans for the 4th-5th Fantastic Beasts movie then they will make that sequel movie with the original cast (most like a cursed child movie). Nostalgia alone will propel that movie to a billion plus gross.

The only thing that can put a stop to any future HP movie plan is Rowling herself.

Even with Asia still reeling from Covid and Russia off the table, the intl market will give this enough of a backstop to eke out a profit, but WB and their new boss are going to look at the trend here and probably stanch the bleeding with this one.

But that doesn't mean the end of the WW. It's too valuable of a franchise. Wait 3-4 years, get some new blood in the writing room, and come back with a prestige limited series on HBO Max. People are forgiving and memories are short. Look at the Batman franchise. Dead in the water after B&R, and then this guy Nolan comes in...

A movie set in Hogwarts after the 1st wizarding war but before Harry arrived at Hogwarts wouldn't work imo. Because pretty much nothing interesting happened in the span of those 10 years. Voldemort was gone and the death eaters were all either captured or completely underground. There wouldn't be any antagonist or conflict unless WB decides to make a high school movie.

Why the hell would WB abandon the WWU for a decade?

It's just so frustrating that today they would be filming a new series focused solely on Grindelwald/Dumbledore instead of it being bogged down by Fantastic Beasts.

Such a shame two very different and potentially great stories were interwoven together.

Honestly, they need to do a new series set in the present day but one with an antagonist that actually destroys the International Statute of Secrecy and exposes the wizarding world to the entire world and there would be no going back.

On Disney Plus. They are not making movies anymore.

There are several movies in development in various forms. Whether or not they will come out is up in the air of course, but you seem to be acting like Star Wars movies are dead forever, when Lucasfilm and Disney clearly want to continue it and I'm sure we will get something in the next few years

And really, if we think about this logistically, why would Warner give up on a major cash cow due to a bad movie? The fanbase is still active. The rides at Universal still get gigantic lines. The HBO Max reunion special was a sensation on social media. The books and movies still sell like hotcakes. They'll regroup, put out something new Potter-related, probably with the old cast returning, and still get solid profits. I get you're upset about all this, but try and take a moment and think about the situation.
