DerekShooster Posted August 22, 2013 Share Posted August 22, 2013 (edited) The Sandlot 8:00PM Wednesday, August 21st Fenway Park (... yes, you read that correctly) Venue Capacity: 37,499 (25% full... at about 9,000 people, I think this is the largest crowd I've ever watched a movie with!) Ticket Price: $10.00 Concessions: ice cream sundae with M&M jimmies, $5.75 TRAILERS: n/a THE FILM: Classic! This is the perfect film to watch in a baseball stadium with people of all ages. I've probably watched The Sandlot over 20 times, but I swear the moment when Smalls catches the baseball for the first time the whole of Fenway Park just erupted in massive applause and gave a whole new meaning to that moment. This epic chorus of cheers, laughs, and applause happened a number of times, including: - When Ham (the chubby kid) first exclaims, "You're killing me, Smalls!" - The moment Squints makes out with Wendy Peffercorn - "You play ball like a GIRL!" - "For-Ehh-VER. For-Ehh-VER. For-Ehh-VER. For-Ehh-VER." - Smalls and the Jet doing the right thing by rescuing the beast. The Sandlot has such a finely-tuned script with characters whose emotions we all can identify with, like Snow White's seven dwarves. It's insanely quotable and very memorable, but certainly more so now that I got to enjoy it with my friends at Fenway Park (sitting in the first row behind the 3rd base dugout, BTW). If the Sox ever decide to screen another baseball film at Fenway, I'll be there in a heartbeat. Such a fun night out, and definitely an unforgettable crowd experience. Concessions: handful of Skittles from a little machine, $0.50 TRAILERS: Prisoners - some talking; same TMI trailer Rush - good trailer, lots of talking from crowd The Fifth Estate - great trailer and lots of talking from the audience The Hunger Games' Catching Fire - very cool trailer and, again, lots of talking THE FILM: Jobs is far from being the movie it could've possibly been. While Ashton Kutcher and all actors definitely look their parts (as evidenced by a very unnecessary series of comparison shots at the end of the film), very few of the cast members actually put enough momentum behind their performances to justify a point to the picture in the first place. The only person that I think hit their role out of the park was Giles Matthey as Jonathan Ive, and sadly he had the least amount of screen time in the whole picture. Anyone that's picked up a newspaper in the last 35 years or has owned an Apple product is familiar with Steve Jobs and his story. He is one of the most celebrated innovators and influential leaders of his generation. But somehow, Jobs comes off as a lazy adaptation of the Steve Jobs wikipedia page, highlighting only the facts and making zero effort to connect audiences with the people in the story. That is except for the forced schmaltz throughout the whole picture. Sadly, the only people weeping from this tearjerker are the characters in the movie. Like everyone walking out of the theater, I didn't hate Jobs. I just felt let down. Most of the comments people had were that they felt "bored" or "uninspired" by the movie, and more than a few people noting it's a shame the film wasn't better. I've heard that Aaron Sorkin is adapting a film about Steve Jobs to come out down the road, so my hope is that it'll make me forget about this picture. But in the meantime, Jobs leaves much to be desired. Experience - 15/30 Story/Writing - 5/20 Acting - 4/15 Tech Specs (Cinematography, Editing, Effects) - 11/15 (these weren't so bad) Directing - 3/10 Music - 8/10 (music wasn't bad either) THE VERDICT: 46/100, D Comments, likes, and feedback are always appreciated. The best parts I thought dealt with the generational divide with the Civil Rights movement, which method was better at effecting change, etc. Lots of people crying in the theater by the end. Movie was freaking hilarious. Tons of laughs in the theater multiple times, and there was a bit of clapping in the movie itself. Movie is not so bad. If you like fantasy movie, you're gonna find this one ok. Got fantastic reactions from the crowd. Loads of laughter Free Birds- Some laughs and I think it looks good Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2- No Reaction. In my view the trailer was underwhelming Justin And The Knights Of Valour- No Reaction. This looks terrible Thomas the tank engine film- No reaction. also looks dreadful. Everyone was sat in the back three rows Trailers Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2- No Reaction Justin and the knights of valour- No Reaction Monster High 13- Couple of people asking when will the trailer end to their parents. It was like 5-10 minutes long [or felt like it anyway] 1D: This Is Us- People asking their parents when can they see this Thomas tank engine movie- No Reaction Suprisingly great film and very fun. A MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES Date: Wednesday 28 August Time: 11:00am Crowd: 7-10%. It was a massive cinema with about 15 people Trailers: Arrived late as we had been given tickets for Monsters University instead of Mortal Instruments Rush- N/R About Time- Bit of talking after. Looks Great The Way Way Back- N/R Rush- They showed the trailer again for some reason Another film that I surprisingly enjoyed. A GROWN UPS 2 Date: Thursday 29 August Time: 11:30am Crowd: 90%. Impact Posted August 31, 2013 Author Share Posted August 31, 2013 Well watched some trailers for some future films last night.Thoughts:Bad Grandpa-first half was okay, 2nd half wanted to make me puke. The Counselor-Looks like a OC. Seventh Son-Does not look THAT bad, but I can see why it is moved again. Out of the Furnace-Looks decent American Hustle-another Bale OC, looks like a interesting period drama Wolf of Wall Street-A little to extreme for me Riddick-Looks okay, but I think people are a bit sci-fi'ed out right now. So did the audience, as there was laughter throughout the movie. There was an issue with the audio I think though, as I missed a few lines and the score seemed pretty loud. Overall a great time. This was my first trip back to the movie theater in about a month, and I'm so happy this is what I went to see. Don Jon is laugh-out-loud-hilarious almost consistently from start to finish, but is also full of several scenes rich with sincerity, introspection, thought provocation, and catharsis. The premise about a New Jersey "Guido" who unabashedly admits to having a healthy obsession with pornography tackles some real relationship taboos with very high comic effect. Joseph Gordon Levitt gives his best performance since 50/50, and as I write that declaration I realize what a multi-talented performer he's proven to be in recent years: a cancer patient, a dream-incepting architect, Robert Lincoln, an orphan police officer superhero, and now "Don Jon". Scarlett Johansson, Tony Danza, and other supporting cast disappear in their roles and deliver huge laughs. But the most noteworthy performance in the film is Julianne Moore, who effortlessly gives Don Jon its emotional heart while still dishing out some of the funniest one-liners in the movie. JGL wrote a great screenplay here, too. And his direction was very confident. The editing, sound, and music were all on the mark from the beginning shots to the ends ones. The dynamic in the audience was amazing, too! During the porn webpage scenes there was this unprecedented dichotomy of laughter in the crowd: pretty much every man in the audience had this sense of familiarity with the character's description and reasoning for going to his porn websites, thus resulting in some very loud belly laughs; however, fewer women laughed as hard at these moments. But contradictory, there were a number of scenes where the women laughed noticeably harder than the men. Overall everyone was laughing together most of the movie and it made for such a fun crowd experience. I couldn't recommend this film more highly! Go see Don Jon while its in theaters so you and your friends can enjoy the experience together. ladyevenstar22 Posted September 29, 2013 Share Posted September 29, 2013 CARIBBEAN CINEMAS MEGAPLEX 7 PRISONERS 4.25PM 35% full missed the trailers because of annoying people buying tickets in front of me in combo with one booth open(wtf) , i don't understand people who still have no clue what they're all going to watch before arriving in front of the booth and to add insult to injury she gave the lady lots of change at least 3$ worth of quarters UGH ALAS i did not miss beyonce awful ad for pepsi UGH ok on to the movie , awesome , it was tight and pretty dark too , i guess you really dont know until confronted with situation what you would do , hugh was great he really shows a range of emotions in this , jake was pretty good also ! and that ending pretty ironic considering his acts during the film, everyone in the audience gasped when the credits rolled like wtf whyyy i guess they decided to let the audience decide what happens 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
