yeah me and @Krissykins had big fight over this. the real ratio is more like 7-8:1 but 10x works good enough. there are some genres which perform better in UK, some does better in US like Superheros.

Yeh I think it came from the Guardian. They covered the UK box office for years and it might’ve been Charles Gant that started the 10x.

It’s not accurate but just a handy guide.

Barbie at potentially £4m on Monday is again, insane.

In the Uk Barbie is doing in prospective the best result of all the globe...as I said seems the kinda perfect comedy the british love in the summer? Like mamma mia and similar?.

I mean at this rate i'm low if i say 35M£ at the end of the second weekend right?

Barbie should be nearing the £40m mark by Sunday. Depending on how good the hold is could even be over.

Oppenheimer I think will be past £25m by Sunday.

Eyeballing the all-time charts for DOM and the UK and it's probably a little bit higher. Only 19 movies have made $500m DOM, whereas 46 movies have made £50m in the UK. Something like £12.5-15m UK ~ $100m DOM would be right.

Looking at 2023 only though, £10m ~ $100m seems more accurate, I guess relatively speaking the UK box office is performing worse than the domestic box office this year.

Yep, I've been using the unofficial £12.5m : $100m ratio for a while and it works really well and also makes it clear which movie is underforming in the UK or US and vice versa. I think the 1 : 10 ratio works better in Australia (that is, $A10m : $100m) and that kinda shows how much of a freak the original Avatar was over there.

Barbie £4.06m

Opp £2.09m

Simply stunning weekday numbers.

So around £26.5m up to Tuesday for Barbie. At this rate it’ll be going into the weekend with around £33m, so could be closer to the £45m mark than £40m by Sunday.

Oppenheimer looking at hitting £25m by a Sunday.

does the actors strike affect UK films as well?

do you mean if they can't promote in the Uk too?. Yes. If the strikes is not over when the next Venice film festival in one month hollywood actors won't be there.

Yes. Lots of UK actors part of the SAG. LFF is already in trouble as lots of films are pulling out. Bring on Italian and French dramas and Scandinavian thrillers!!!
