They gave too much power to Feige so he started making Rick & Morty amateurs with no experience write $200m blockbusters. They should fire those writers and bring back talented writers.

It's not so much the Rick and Morty writer's fault as it is the director being completely out of his element.

You guys act like Quantumania is like some impossible to recover from disaster. Everyone was doing the sky is falling with Guardians too, and DCs bombs in between Guardians and this have made everyone underestimate this by a lot.

Two things can be true: it's probably not doing the numbers of the first, and it's probably going too still make a lot of money.

Sky isn't falling, these movies still make a shit ton of money. Every franchise would wish a poorly received film made $200M+ domestically and near $500M worldwide. But yea, Guardians 3 pre-sales, the fact that there was a chance of missing $100M on OW, the fact that it still opened 19% below the second film despite great WoM and 6 years of inflation... shows the brand ain't what it used to be.

Fast X and F9 made $700m+ WW, JWD made $1b WW, Meg 2 and Fantastic Beasts 3 both made $400m WW. Many franchises are able to get their poorly received films to near or over $500m WW.

Possibly but IW and EG did some damage to GotG via Star-Lord's character as well. So it was always going to be an uphill battle for the Guardians in Phases 4-5. Of course, following up Quantumania put GotG3 in a worse position.

The fact that it still didn't bomb is actually a testament to how strong the MCU as a brand still is especially when they put out good movies.

Lol no, the anger at the direction they took Star Lord's character only exists online. I assure you no one IRL cares about that, most GA have already forgotten about that lol.

Yea, had to clarify; a poorly received film in their weakest sub-franchise, that is.

Vanity Fair reports budget is $130m, lowest budget ever for MCU after adjusting for inflation. Unadjusted, it's #2 lowest behind Ant-Man.

That’s actually incredibly reasonable if true. This ain’t flopping, financially anyway

I think people think the genre (however you define that) as dying because of DCs performances but that's specifically related to issues with DC and more specifically WBD. Creative changes. Multiple mergers with ATT and Discovery. Multiple massive creative changes in the franchise direction, and on top of that a looming reset. Obviously critical response has also been a factor but even with Blue Beetle we see that didn't help nearly enough. The truth is that.

DC and Marvel have both created the problems that their comic universes have: Marvel has so much continuity that they constantly are starting new #1s so new readers don't feel intimidated hopping on (in this case #1s is new film/TV leads, which frankly works way better than it does with the comics), and with DC they cant commit to a creative direction and constantly reboot because the only thing that consistently sells is Batman.

I have a real hard time believing that, especially given the re-shoots. Vanity is a more reliable source, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the number go up.

The movie was shot using those Mandalorian techs that is not expensive at this point etc, and it definitely looks like a more restrained movie visually
