Well, I thought I had pulled the weekend sales for Spider-Man on Friday, but looks like that was the only day I skipped.  These will be useful for the next big opener at least.

Spider-Man Comps

Saturday - .539x (39.89m)

Sunday - .49x (31.5m)

With one day left, here's where the T-0 tracking has ended in Santikos

Thursday - 18.83m

Friday - 32.61m

Saturday - 39.89m

Sunday - 31.5m

Full Weekend - 122.83m*

*I will note that this chain only had one pre-show (Tuesday) and it was sold out.  I didn't account for those sales into the Thursday comp since I was looking for a more one-to-one comparison.  When adding in pre-shows, the full weekend comp would be 126.83.  We'll see how this changes with one more day of Sunday sales.

Also some theaters near me are posting showtimes for Morbius for when it goes on sale next week and a number of the multiplexes are booking it on 3-5 screens for that weekend (with possible more to come). Definitely seems like a sign everyone knows that it's gonna be a hit.

Will CinemaCon be Disney's next big "reveal" event where they show a bunch of new stuff (be it announcements, footage or reveal dates)? Or is it mostly industry stuff with not much for fans to chew on?

Usually it's a mix of all the above plus celebrity appearances. Expect the Doctor Strange/Thor stars to be there plus Chris Evans and Keke Palmer (who will be there as part of the Universal showcase for Nope) to promote Lightyear.

Does it?  Holdovers that wknd will be like:

Lost City 15M

Batman 10M

RRR 5M

Uncharted 3M

NWH 3M

Dog 2M

and I’m being generous. Morbius is just the latest in a long line of recent blockbusters that can get infinite screens because there’s no competition.

Yea they'll promote Multiverse of Madness, Lightyear, and Thor for sure. I'm curious if we get anything for Black Panther, Avatar 2, or Strange World. Maybe a further expansion of the MCU film slate?

It's already getting more screens around here than the amount Uncharted was booked for (and that ended up really overperforming). At the very least, it's being booked like a $45M+ opener.

They'll likely show a sizzle reel featuring the first footage from those movies + first looks at their 2023 slate that's already been shot and currently in post (The Marvels, The Haunted Mansion, Guardians 3, The Little Mermaid, Indiana Jones 5, Ant-Man 3).

This was still Uncharted's soft launch before it was in the "Tickets Now Available" phase of marketing, so do take this with an extreme grain of salt.

Not much change since yesterday as both movies had similar increases.  It looks like this is going to come in on the low side when all is said and done which I think means a higher % of walkups.

‘Batman’ AMC Surge Pricing Postmortem: Exhibitor Not The First Major To Hike Ticket Prices On A Superhero Pic; Making Sense Of The Madness

https://deadline.com/2022/03/batman-spiderman-movie-ticket-price-increase-amc-1234972159/

Thought some of this info was interesting for tracking/extrapolation purposes....

  • Close to 60% of Batman‘s moviegoers bought their tickets before opening day per Comscore’s PostTrak, while 76% of them bought them online (vs. at the theater). We hear that AMC repped close to a third of the $100.3M Batman grosses in its first two days, Regal 20% of that number and Cinemark 15%.
  • As you can see, No. 2 theater circuit Regal was charging $13.73 on average during Spider-Man‘s opening, above their average ticket price of $12.91. Cinemark was charging $11.19 on average for the Jon Watts-directed title vs. $10.63 while AMC that weekend charged an average of $13.92 to a regular price ticket of $13.21. This weekend for Batman, AMC’s average ticket price was $14.50 (vs. $13.22 regular ticket price), Regal’s was $13.44 (vs. $12.67) and Cinemark’s $11.25 (vs. $10.25).
  • EntTelligence reports that 20 million people stateside saw Spider-Man: No Way Home during weekend one versus 9.5M for The Batman.

Traditionally any major MCU updates or reveal happen at Comic Con. 🥺

I mean, they might mix stuff up. But except for their El Cap Civil War announcement, the years that D23 are within a week of SDCC, and that Disney Day during the height of pandemic, it’s always Saturday at 5PM on the third weekend in July when the party starts!!!

And I think it’s smart. The CinemaCon audience, or even the d23 audience, will not give them the In Room HYPE that SDCC does. I still remember the year that Kevin causally mentioning the word “Skrull” got a bigger pop than anything any other studio showed that day. 😂😂😂

That seems likely. Teaser trailer in the next 2 weeks then the final trailer the week of CinemaCon.

Not the thread to go into Obi-Wan Kenobi rumors since that's a Disney Plus release, but as you presumably know as well as I do, it might come sooner than "in the next 2 weeks", he said somewhat enigmatically.
