Got intrigued by @keysersoze123post about Indiana Jones 5 friday presales compared to Oppenheimer so I looked them up"

IJ5: 82 tickets sold across 99 showtimes at 9 AMC's

Oppenheimer was 99 tickets sold across 25 showtimes at 7 AMC's (this was taken several hours ago)

Would caution getting carried away with Oppenheimer, pace is going to slow a lot in the final stretch with pretty non existent walkups, same thing happened with Dunkirk. Nonetheless it's encouraging that the fanbase is still coming out for early pre-sales. Universal is probably going to be aggressive throughout NBA finals too which might help keep the pace up in the early going

I think that is a huge exaggeration. Every movie has some level of walkups. Like SH movies are most presale heavy. Dune had less walkups mainly due to it being available for Free on HBO Max.

Oppenheimer will attract older audience. Manhattan project is a huge part of the history. American Prometheus is also one of the best received books read by many and so I am sure curiousity will bring them in. Many of the older audience dont book 7 weeks in advance for sure. So dont assume anything for certainity.

That said I am not saying Oppeneheimer would out open Indian Jones and that movie will have great final week(though not enough to take it to 100m OW).

I like how Disney killed two movies in one single Cannes edition. Good job, everyone!

Disney do not need to sweep those two movies (Elemental and Indiana Jones) under the rug if they bomb, they need to have emergency meeting to prevent stuff like this in the future from happening!

I mean yeah, it's not going to be non existent, I am exaggerating there and don't mean it literally, but I think it's going to be a lot closer to SH movies than you would think is what I'm saying. At least in terms of pre-sales, but maybe less so in terms of weekend multiplier.

Dunkirk was niche as a movie can be domestic. it still was leggier than most movies domestic. so Nolan movies are definitely nothing like SH movies. We have never tracked final week presales for a Nolan movie in a fine grained manner. So let us figure out how a Nolan movie does in final week. This has everything going for it despite being a '3 hour drama". Knowing Nolan's style it wont be long drawn scenes. I am expecting him to move across timelines and quick cuts. This is why Blunt said its a thriller disguised as a biography.
