I checked with people and it seemed the general preference was to just go by what IMDb listed as 2002 so ignore this!

Afraid it's Spirited Away, Y Tu Mama Tambien and The Piano Teacher that are ineligible.

My best picture rn would look like:

1. 25th Hour

2. Catch Me if You Can

3. Minority Report

4. Spider-man

5. Kannathil Muthumital

6. The Ring

7. Punch Drunk Love

8. Hero

9. Two Towers

10. The Pianist

Everyone's heard of all the films on here, except for probably Kannathil Muthumital so FYC:

Watch Kannathil Muthamittal | Prime Video

An incredibly powerful melodrama involving the Sri-Lankan civil war and one of the most horrifying movies I saw as a kid. It's also from one of my favorite directors of all time (Mani Ratnam). Probably gonna do a rewatch of this myself.

Gonna try to watch Femme Fatale, Solaris, Windtalkers, Far From Heaven, Demonlover, Unfaithful, and Devdas.

is Attack of the Clones an original or adapted screenplay?

is Spirited Away eligible?

can we get categories for horror and comedy?

AOTC is definitely adapted since it’s a sequel.

By how we’re currently defining things, spirited away would not be eligible. But if people prefer we can include it since it’s in that fuzzy gray area space.

In general, I don’t disqualify votes and just let people decide for themselves on what they think is eligible where. Only time I’ll specifically cast out a vote is when it’s blatantly not eligible (like voting for Endgame)

I just rewatched this and I feel like I underrated it. Mani Ratnam made one of the great anti-war films in the past 20 years by essentially making it a classic melodrama. Insane how this is simalteneously heartbreaking but at the same time made me want to spend more time with these wonderfully detailed characters (only Mani Ratnam can pull-off a detour into a lovely romantic subplot in between a film like this). Also contains one of the best child performances ever. So FYC again. It's on Netflix in the US.
