yep but that's a Minions-only triumph - last year had "Tammy" as the best opener (120k ...) with a much more balanced line-up - last year, 12 movies counted more than 10k admissions, now it's only 7 despite 200% plus!

I don't know how long it's been like this but the FFA have updated their website. Updates to film statistic sites always make me worried that we'll lose some data and as far as I can tell we have, they used to have monthly statistics all the way back to 1997 and the calendar year top 100s to 1986. Now they only go to 2009. I expect we'll lose everything older than six years.

The first Thursday estimates:

 

Minions - 85k admissions (evening only!)

TG - 52.5k (for comparison: Because of the too early date I could not find numbers for the first days of T3 & TS but EX3 had 70k admissions - with worse weather over the weekend but perhaps more frontloaded)

The DUFF – 3k

The Age of Adaline – 5.5k

Papa ou mamam / Mama gegen Papa – under 1k

It Follows – under 1k

 

TG is by far the best newbie but this does not mean much if you look at these terrible low numbers of the other new releases.

As far as I can see all new entries get a solid or good feedback. Hopefully this will help a bit against the beautiful and hot weather.

with those numbers, TG is safely #2 for the weekend (#1 was never possible) but 1mil total seem hard to reach with this kind of opening.

First weekend estimates, Minions might increase from last weekend!

 

#1: Minions - 900k to 1,1mil admissions range (family movies always hard to estimate)

#2: T:G - 300k

#3: JW - 175k (flat from last weekend)

#4: Ted2 - 150k (increase!)

 

Age of Adaline and domestic teenie comedy DUFF should both get about 60k admissions.

 

So, overall a friendly weekend but that makes the opening of TG only the more mediocre.

The openers: Terminator Genisys was the only one doing strong business, but 222k admissions is a disappointment. The Age of Adaline had a lot od screens but generated little interest; domestic teen comedy DUFF came in stronger despite fewer screens.

Next weekend: There are no openers. Seriously, there's not a single wide release - obviously distributors considered the coming weekend absolutely BO poison. So, another very strong week for the Minions!

I have no idea really, but there must have been some reasoning I hope - leaving a whole weekend without a single wide opener is strange. Maybe they were thinking that the double punch Minions/TG would leave no room to breathe for other releases.

Yep, but that was nearly a given from the start. In fact both are over-performing compared to expectations, but JW more so.

I know, but still many people are used to numbers in USD. And after foreign charts on BoM are gone those are hard to find.

As I said earlier, the weekend trends are not my job. (And I never know if it's ok to post something).

 

But overall I can say that it's no bad weekend here. (Quite) good holds and one big sursprise - Unknown User with possibly 200k admissions. Minions will of course stay on top with hopefully 750k admissions.

The weather is still perfect and will stay like this the whole weekend (sigh).

Among openers, Unfriended was a real surprise with an incredible PTA - this might see some expansion and accordingly a super hold next weekend.

Holdovers: Minions continue their try für world domination, nr. 1 in Gemany is only one weekend away (DM2's total is toast by now)! Terminator crumbles, Jurassic World continues on its way to Germany's nr.2 of 2015 and Ted 2 has found some legs after the lukewarm start. And Honig im Kopf, now in week 30, was not far from the Top10 once more - incredible!

 

Next weekend: Ant-Man and Magic Mike XXL are the widest openers. By now Marvel is a houshold name with audiences but I guess Ant-Man stands no chance against the yellow horde.
