I‘m not surprised by the I2 drop, weather is predicted to be fabulous today and on Saturday. Maybe Sunday can turn some things around for the family films.

I dont get our weather. We have Summer since early April. I want bad weather NOW! And my garden needs it even more!

I still want sunshine, the last winter was so long and dark. But here in Bavaria it rained much more so no problems with the gardens...

Some Thursday actuals (Blickpunkt:Film) - and the Thursday numbers are not to blame at all:

The new releases:

Venom (released in 520 theaters, mediocre reviews): 55k/632 US$ - indeed not bad
ASIB (460, overall good reviews): 20k
Werk ohne Autor (a German drama, 314, very mixed reviews): 6k

The holdovers - very nice holds:

TI2: 40k (actuals last Thursday 45k) - that's a really fine hold, Mark_G must factor in great weekend weather for that bad drop, maybe it will improve
Klassentreffen: 20k (17k)
Ballon: 16k (12k, plus the film had more admissions from Mon to Wed than on its first weekend!)

The weekend went better than expected thanks to strong holds and good openers. Venom did better than I thought it could do, same as A Star is Born. Both might reach 1mil total! The only real loser this weekend were The Incredibles 2 which suffered a bad drop.

Next weekend: Smallfoot for children (I see little potential but much depends on weather), The Happytime Murders (aims at a tiny demo), French romance Amoureux de ma femme which has quite a cast but little buzz, and on the domestic side, thriller Abgeschnitten which should attract some business as - more or less - the only thriller currently in release. As to #1, it might become a close race between this week's leaders.

This year

I know right? The crumbling box office, the shamefull excit at the World Cup, a self-destructive new government that is essentially producing satire for months now, nutella changing their recipes...

Bad year.

#10 Bad Times at the El Royale 25k
#11 Werk ohne Autor 25k

2018 BO in Germay and Austria got sunk by a kind of perfect storm, multiple negative factors coming together:

- World Cup year

- Weak line-up of releases

- Beautiful weather throughout most of the year (and even more so on the weekends)

at least 2019 won't have football ... as to the rest of factors, one can hope. One such hope would be cheaper tickets, theaters might profit from bigger concession - in France, it worked (and works) and create a bigger public along the way. Another hope would be some help from politics - the domestic film industry is growing but movies still are considered a "lesser" art; hence the amount of public money spent on home productions AND things like festivals is ridiculously low - again, take France as an example.

btw, what the fuck. Did Löw sniff all succes from team?)))

Löw just didnt know when to quit (kinda like Merkel, but i dont really want to dive into politics). His style and tactic is just old now, every team on the planet knows how to play against us succesfully. We need a new trainer as soon as possible imo.
