BO Germany/Austria: Dune first 2024 blockbuster (3mil admissions)

That's really on the lower end of sensible expectations for WHD. Good holds I'd say (weather is fine so overall business will slow down a bit)

Ouch for WHD.

Yep, it's been a long way from "Independence Day". Nobody expected much from WHD (too US-centric) but here's a list of what the better of Emmerich's films did in their opening weeks:

1996: Independence Day - 2.5mil admissions

1998: Godzilla - 1.5mil

2000: The Patriot - 0.8mil

2004: The Day After Tomorrow - 1.7mil

2009: 2012 - 1.4mil

WHD is really far behind. In 2008, "10.000 B.C." opened to 368k admissions in week 1 and didn't reach 900k total - so 1mil admissions for WHD is already an ambitious goal at this point.

Germany's box office isn't the same today...

How much did Godzilla 98 make on dollars in Germany

Don't know about Dollars, but Godzilla made it to barely 3mil admissions (only a 2x multiplier), should be about 20 - 25mil USD depending on ticket prices and exchange rates of course.

WHD is a conventional action movie, these types of movie don't set the box office on fire, unless its a sequel. This is a good opening for a non sequel, non scifi action movie.WHD opened three time more admission than the rival OHF.

I don't buy that "non-sequel" argument; Emmerich is a really well-known director. Even Hansel&Gretel opened to a lot more admissions. It would be decent for an actioner by a new director and unknown cast; WHD should have done better.

final weekend trend:

#1: WHD - 225k

#2: RED2 - 175k

#3: WtM - 150k

#4: Da geht noch was - 135k

#5: Planes - 125k

#6: S2 - 90k

#7: Feuchtg. - 75k

#8: World's End - 60k

Ouch for the openers, except maybe local comedy "Da geht noch was" which should also see good drops and might even reach 1mil, while 1mil for an action comedy like RED2 is already dead, with this opening even 600k will be difficult. (The first R.E.D. had 874k admissions)
