Dropped 10% in Vietnam this weekend ($7.2M so far). Likely to pass AEG as highest grossing foreign film ($12M), 2nd all-time. Final gross forecast: $14M.

 

WOM and social media discussion are going strong. Characters are well liked.

Excluding US, feels like Japan, UK &Saudi Arabia.. and may be Taiwan will be the markets where Avatar won't be able to defeat Top Gun Maverick.

Japan easily has been the biggest disappointment.

who can ever Image Avatar doing 17B in Japan as a sequal doing only 3-4B

Small market, but in Romania Avatar 2 had the 2nd biggest OW of all time in both lc and USD (1.36m) - behind FF7.

 

The first Avatar is still the highest grossing movie ever in USD with around 6.4m.

 

But in admissions and local currency a local movie, Tembuilding, beat it recently (977k admissions and still growing, though it will likely fall short of 1m adm).

 

Avatar 2 does have a good shot at taking all crowns though (biggest movie in USD, lc and admissions). Let’s see how this weekend holds.
