29M would be 93% jump, insane after an 23% drop on Christmas Day

So 63.5M weekend and 53% drop despite storm and christmas day, honestly, it's great

Very curious about tomorrow, if the 21% jump Disney estimate holds, that would be 35M on boxing day

we back?

does james cameron have a formula to have universal appeal?

it's really impressive how well he does everywhere

His movies stories are simple as it can get but always done with impressive execution, it's easy to connect when there's not much cultural speficities in his plots.

While this is constantly perceived as a problem, it's actually his strenght as an populist filmmaker.

Wait until after NYD, too many factors still.

In theory this is the week for Avatar to shine, it started very strongly, let's hope it keeps this energy.

The doomposts should stop tho, OS numbers are excellent and DOM is clearly not crumbling.

Don't know why it is perceived as a problem too.

As @Legion in Boots said, we can't stop doomposting until it goes over $573M DOM or ATWOW's WW-C total is over NWH WW-R.

Simple Stories, Excellent Story Telling of those simple stories.

Spectacle of Cinema and mixing that up with one of the most important thing for movie to succeed - Emotions, he just knows how to play with emotions.

Plus no matter if it was a story about a sinking ship or a fight for a planet or a man's tries to protect his family, you can count on James Cameron movies to have immense appeal for family audience.

One of the main reasons why this is not performing well domestically compared to OS is that Disney has spent very little on advertising. It has spent just $30M in ads for Avatar 2 here, whereas they spent 68M for Wakanda Forever.

Avatar is a foreign franchise, the same happened with the first one. Nothing to do with marketing.

And Disney can't complain when despite that, it's still about to make 550 - 600M domestic.

Sauce?

I say that, as that doesn't sound right at all.  There's been a ton of advertising on broadcast channels, for instance, ever since BP2 finished.  It's been all over World Cup and NFL games to be a bit more specific.

Yea there's no way domestic marketing is less than half of BP. In the few days leading up to OD I was literally seeing commercials for it every 30 minutes.

With better marketing this could have made another 100M.
