Elvis not winning anything below the line kind of foreshadowed Fraser pulling this off. The academy just didn't like it enough.

Elvis just wasn't THAT great of a film, and Butler's performance was vastly overstated. Fraser was 100x better and I am very happy for him.

Hopefully Brendan can get some good offers again from this. Too bad his already made comic book movie (Batgirl) was thrown in the trash. Good thing he's already in Scorsese's newest movie coming out this year (and will attend the ceremony next year both as part of the crew for it and to fulfill his Best Actress presenting duties as the current Actor winner).

Feel like this +the incredible amount of positive PR buzz for him all fall and winter insanely vaults him back into legitimate industry name. KOTFM will only help with this. They should 100% reboot the Mummy franchise, and Fraser no doubt should be on DC/Marvel's minds for something significant as well.

everyone keeps making a big deal out of two cast members of encino man winning oscars without mentioning both our lead acting winners shared the screen in The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

The Oscar for Fraser was clearly a career award since his best performance ever was already achieved in George of the Jungle

Dudley Do Right bro.

So who is the next big "comeback" actor from the late 1990s / early 2000s?

Tbf, can't blame anyone for trying to forget that movie exists.

Losing SAG was arguably a bigger sign that Butler was a vulnerable frontrunner than the jokes about him continuing to do the Elvis voice IMO.

In the end, given that Elvis won nothing and The Whale took home two Oscars, it's clear they didn't like the movie enough to award it anything and Austin also lacked the already established experience that previous biopic winners had when they won. That said, dude clearly has potential to become a superstar if he plays his cards right, and luckily he already has a couple of exciting projects (Dune 2, The Bikeriders) that will be out by the end of the year made before he was nominated to as a promising sign.

bit disrespectful to have people clap for some of the dead and not the others, and for some to get half a screen and others a full one

They don’t clap cause they don’t know who 90% of them are.

That's great for A24. They're probably my favourite producer of movies right now, making good, creative, interesting films - even when I'm mixed on them, I appreciate what they're putting out there. From 2002, I loved Everything Everywhere, Aftersun, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, and The Inspection.

And in recent years, films like The Farewell, Hereditary, Midsommar, The Lighthouse, Uncut Gems, Minari, The Green Knight, etc.

Peace,

Mike

Cameron Diaz.

Not bad pick.

Ashton Kutcher maybe? Josh Hartnett is getting larger roles. Channing Tatum had a good 2022.  Freddie Prinze Jr. is making another Summer horror film. Ryan Phillippe is out there somewhere. Hayden Christensen is still alive.
