So Maoyan is saying 2.67m OD. That is more like 10m OW than what we expected earlier. I hope it goes up with better walkups on Friday.

Mario did more PS and had a 6.3M OW and 25M total run. Maybe it will end up around there? However next week there is a chinese animation movie isnt it?

Quite a good hold for IO2, Monday had holidays in different countries (like Argentina, Philippines), Argentina alone dropped $1.4m from yesterday. I can see Philippines dropping around 500k from yesterday. So over almost $2m from them, meaning close to flat in other markets.

It is opening in France and Italy tomorrow, both had previews so they sould be adding $6m tomorrow (if both previews get rolled in to OD).

Courtesy of @Issac Newton, here's a list of post COVID non-Japanese animation in Japan.

Post- CoVid-19 Imported Animation

  • The Super Mario Bros. Movie - ¥14.02B
  • Minions: The Rise Of Gnu - ¥4.442B
  • Wish - ¥3.60B
  • Sing 2 - ¥3.311B
  • Elemental - ¥2.70B
  • Light Year - ¥1.223B
  • Spider-Man: Across The Spidey-Verse - ¥1.11B
  • The Boss Baby: Family Business - ¥1.000B

I think 5 billion Yen is an optimistic target for Inside Out 2 in Japan. That would be $32 million or so, considering the exchange rate.

I think ¥5B is stressful. ¥4B is reasonable and ¥3B~¥3.5B likely

Looking Competition - Inside Out opens 1 week ahead of Shin Chan

— straight direct competition for screens against My Hero Academia 4 (Last Movie did ¥3.39B)

Whatever I just want ER to get stable 😀

ahh well thanks for that perspective. Some people put a lot of expectations on Japan's box office for their favored films but they don't realize how the market works.

True. Also we have the sequel factor here. Last film did ¥4.04B so it's doesn't guarantee a increase for sequel. I hope Obon Festival work out this time!

¥5.0B+ Grossers in 2024

Conan 2023 ~ ¥14.9B

Haikyuu ~ ¥11B

Spy x Family ~ ¥6.3B

Strange House - Horror Film (Tiktok/SNS Sensation) ~ ¥5.03B

Imported Film that exceeded ¥1.0B in 2024

Wish ~ ¥3.6B

Wonka ~ ¥2.36B

Oppenheimer ~ ¥1.8B

Godzilla x Kong ~ ¥1.7B

Monday and Tuesday number give me confident that this will pass I2 as biggest Pixar film worldwide. China performing or not doesn’t matter that much. China won’t catch that Mexico BO I believe.

2nd weekend $140M+ expected. Total by SUN $335M+.

My exact expectations are, a bit optimistic, $160M weekend and $355M total by SUN.

For that to work out Wed + thurs would have to be 21m combined. Just in holdover markets alone it will surely exceed that.
