Fourth of July/Despicable Me 4 Weekend Thread | 122.61M 5-Day Opening

Honestly some people here are a bit hypocritical. They start discussions and then when it doesn’t go their way or they don’t get the validation they seek it’s “let’s go back to Despicable Me gifs” or “let’s move on.” It wouldn’t be annoying if people just recognized that or were more comfortable with people disagreeing with them. Same with discussions about the state of the industry (which actually has objective data to back up claims) or the specific films they like.

I think Longlegs is going to perform very similar to Maxxxine.  The 7pm showing Thursday has decent sales but Friday and Saturday are dead and Its playing in small auditoriums.   Cinephiles are buying early but I doubt it has much walkup business like Maxxxine.

One thing that I noticed is that The Avengers is still in the top 10 of movies at the worldwide box office. $1.52 billion. If nothing else, Inside Out 2 is likely to beat that.

Spoiler

I´m not seeking any validation from you. I gave my opinion about the Gladiator discussion overall, you´re not discussing it alone. I did said the rationalized bias is laughable because i´ve been reading it for weeks now, but i didn´t even feel the need to quote you directly because you didn´t invent this, i know everyone does it.

You quoted me which is fair and made your point even more clear, i get it and i said it didn´t changed my mind, i still think the way you talk about this movie is funny to read, what else do you want me to say? This is very far from not accepting disagreement lol. I accept it, i´m just not obligated to change my mind because of it, it´s just normal behavior to move on.

You´re the one that is starting to look like someone who can´t accept people disagreeing with you, because you keep insisting on it with everyone that argues with you about this movie. It´s very healthy to change topics when the discussions clearly isn´t going anywhere, what is annoying is when one part just can´t let it go because they didn´t convinced people that they´re right, so they just keep going and calling people hypocrites.

I think the biggest issue with this movie is lack of showtimes att, the release is feeling quite limited.

Maybe it´s better this way to avoid disappointments since there´s a possibility that the good sales are cinephiles rushing it like you said, but maybe it will prevent it from have a pretty good opening if the interest is beyond the cinephile crowd this time.

Still one of the more impressive runs i´ve ever seen, and quite surprising as well.

Let´s see if someone finally beats it out of the top 10, many movies came close and fail to kick it out.

I think it's great when peoples predictions for a film have such wide floors and ceilings. It's certainly more interesting that predicting the next comic book, apes or transformers sequel where the range is never too wide apart. Top gun was an example of this as upon announcement, I wouldn't have even been that confident in 150m. Instead it made almost 600m more. Let the contrasting predictions flourish so theres room for a surprise

I feel that Furious 7 deserves it's spot. Only 5 mil away but didn't have the advantage of 3d when it was adding a significant percentage to a films gross.

Furious 7 had a bigger Chinese market and inflation.

I told you to stop talking about it, so I would've indeed felt hypocritical if I continued talking about it myself. I think it is pretty clear that we do not agree and there is nothing more to be gained from continuing this pointless discourse about a movie that's not out for four months, I have said everything I can say about it and would indeed rather shitpost Minions memes at this point

I'm so so excited for Longlegs and you couldn't pay me to see annoying ass Maxxxine, so there's one walkup for Longlegs to ensure it's gonna make at least $12 more!

lol the weekend thread is always gold.
Despicable Me 4 is also a $1T film.

Took me a second to realize that was $1 tril and i thought it was $1bil, honestly after this weekend they've got about the same liklihood, Sure DM4 still has some bigger markets to open in next weekend but coming in 2nd internationally behind IO2 on week 4 isn't great for it.

Furious 7 would be in that spot had it made 6 million more, but it didn't

"Kill" becomes a big box office flop in US.   Even Indian-Americans have little interest in watching this film...

It is a big flop in India itself, Indian Indians have less than little interest in watching it.

But good for John Wick director or whoever who wants to remake this movie.

Re: the Gladiator II/Wicked showdown: it won't be another Barbenheimer and no one should expect it to be. Actually, the combo I would look to for these movies as a direct comparison instead are Happy Feet and Casino Royale, where you had a family-friendly musical vs. an adult-targeted action film on the same pre-Thanksgiving weekend in 2006 and both ending up as hits together. That said, without even a trailer for Gladiator yet, I would easily expect Wicked to win this battle since the Wizard of Oz IP overall is arguably stronger, it'll be the first family film in a while, and Universal is already looking to sell it like a major event film, especially for its female target demos.
