May 4, 2012 Weekend (AVENGERS Opening Discussion): ACTUAL 207.4 mill!!!!

Recommended Posts

With it's second OS weekend and first DOM weekend TA still manages to become number 3 at WORLDWIDE OPENINGS, only 1,5 mil behind HP6

2 Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince WB $394.0 $158.0 40.1% $236.0 59.9% 2009

3 Marvel's The Avengers BV $392.5 $207.4 52.8% $185.1 47.2% 2012

Or is that its first OS OW with first DOM OW?

Just got the word that I'm going to see Avengers again in a few minutes. My brother called and said his wife saw it with their young son and they loved it.

She...watched it on the internet. Gotta wonder how much that cuts into business. (Didn't help that they released the movie everywhere else first)

10 days before here! :)

Anyone have a rough idea how The Avengers compares to TDK in terms of OW admissions/attendance?

Avengers is on top by several hundred thousand. Somewhere in the low 22 millions

Just heard news that George Lucas is coming out of retirement for the long awaited Star Wars/Indiana Jones crossover.

Cool, now the swordsman can shoot Indy *and* Han first...

A high quality dark Batman vs/team up with Superman film directed by a somebody would do much better than a goofy "wannabe Avengers" JLA movie, IMO.

JLA are not wannabe Avengers. Both teams have their strengths and weaknesses, and both teams have been around for many many decades, with varying degrees of success. In fact, just recently, both TA and JLA are consistently their respective companies' biggest selling comics. If WB decides to start on a blank slate after TDKR, they should concert their efforts to make TMAO a good film, and start creating their shared universe, with a WW film and a new Batman that fits whatever the vision for the shared Universe is. Hopefully all three films will do what THOR, CA, and Im did: Whet audiences appetites for the inevitable team-up.

In this case, it's possible it doesn't hurt and even helps. WOM and/or previewing it and liking it enough to go see it in the theater with a friend.
