How popular is Angelina Jolie in Japan?

 

Actually, I think it's more likely that Edge of Tomorrow will be bigger than Maleficent that weekend.

 

Angelina Jolie is very popular. The hype for Maleficent is already there thanks to the trailers that were shown before Frozen, and the overall reaction was like "It's Angie! I wanna see it!". Tom Cruise is also popular, but at this point, the hype for Maleficent is far bigger than Edge of Tomorrow. Also, it feels more like Alice than Oz, and it's targeting women, the majority of movie goers in Japan right now. Still have like 2 months tough, for Edge of Tomorrow to build the hype.

It looks like Frozen is tracking about -9% from its last comparable weekdays

As far as i understood (please correct me if i am wrong) there are no official weekend estimates directly from within Japan... stuff that is posted here is mostly based on some guys program that checks the online ticketing systems for some of the theatre chains. Naturally those numbers are not always reliable since marketshare can shift quite strongly from time to time (for example the singalong which was primarily at the TOHO chain skewed estimates quite a bit). If you are looking for posts about records then just search this thread for Corpse (his/her posts from another forum are usually reposted on here). And  T E Lawrence usually keeps track of individual peoples estimates
