JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Recommended Posts

Since it's passed IM3 OS, we now (for the next few days) have three different 2013 champions. CF is the DOM champion, Frozen is the OS champion, and IM3 is the WW champion.

Also, if that BD info is legit, Frozen will probably be somewhere around $250m at that time.

Just for fun I went and found all of Corpse weekend forecasts and compared to actuals..

Weekend # - Total ¥  - total $ -  total ¥ (actual) - total $ (actual)

1- ¥580 (5.7m) - ¥763 (7.5m)

2- ¥670 (6.6m) - ¥872 (8.5m)

3- No forecast - ¥881 (8.6m)

4- ¥790 (7.7m) - ¥850 (8.3m)

5- ¥690 (6.8m) - ¥841 (8.2m)

6- ¥720 (7.0m) - ¥826 (8.1m)

7- ¥760 (7.4m) - ¥772 (7.6m)

8- ¥910 (8.9m) - ¥1120 (11.1m)

9- ¥741 (7.3m) - ¥738 (7.2m)

10- ¥649 (6.4m) - ¥807 (7.9m)

So Frozen's weekends have outperformed Corpse's estimates by an average of 17.4%.  The range has been -1.4% (last weekend) and +31.6% (opening weekend).

Y'know, even if Frozen had only done what Corpse predicted each weekend, it would still be doing phenomenally well.

Indeed.  A 5.7M opening would put it at 138M with the same legs, still looking good for 200M+ and probably SA in dollars.  Yet its handily outdoing his weekly predictions that are made withe each previous monster hold in mind.

Frozen blood. Going from angst to tragedy.

It can't be true. It doesn't make any sense...why would a studio release a film titled 'Frozen' in the middle of summer, when it will still be making several millions per week? It'd be the dumbest move ever.

It just...doesn't make any sense. It absolutely has to be Rapunzel alone.

So has anyone actually tried emailing Disney and asking them the bluray release date for Frozen in Japan, or whether the July date is true?

I know that some people emailed Disney about when the 3D release was coming out in America, and Disney actually emailed back with an answer. It was a generic "we have no plans yet" answer, but it was something.

Also why would Disney Japan release Frozen and rerelease Tangled on video the same day? That seems like a terrible decision that would cut into sales for both. I heard all video releases are very expensive in Japan too.

WDSHE only handles domestic releases. Someone would have to call their Japanese counterpart. I can't seem to find them nor their contact info on a quick web search, but they should be able to provide the most recent information, provided that information is free to go public already.

As for the domestic 3D release, unless something's changed, their current response is "tentatively planned for later this year," though we don't have a press release yet to confirm the exact date. Marketing materials suggest October.

Since it's passed IM3 OS, we now (for the next few days) have three different 2013 champions. CF is the DOM champion, Frozen is the OS champion, and IM3 is the WW champion. Also, if that BD info is legit, Frozen will probably be somewhere around $250m at that time.

The only time this has happened (at least since 1989) was in 2002.

But no one cares about who holds the OS record.

DOM and WW is where it's at. :P
