JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Recommended Posts

TA sat should be around lc240m admits 160k (TDKR lc192m)cume about 1.125m admits 774kPrometheus had previews again sat about 90m (3rd week previews)

Thanks as always. Around 14M so far.I'm slightly confused, if the Saturday is 240M then Sunday would only be 139M. Quite a big drop. Also, Rth do you know when TA will hit dollar theaters? Edited by druv10

Rth gets info from rentrak, so he's probably more accurate. Though a 240 million yen Saturday with 160,000 admissions means the avg. ticket price is 1,500 yen making the 3D share possibly 80%. That seems pretty high.I used data compared to Sherlock Holmes last March that would give it about 280,000 admissions and 370-390 million yen for the weekend (200-220 million Saturday) with a 3D share closer to the 60% films have been receiving this year.

Thanks, so we're looking at 16-17M opening. Absolutely astonishing that it'll beat every Marvel made movie on opening week alone. Maybe TA2 could push into SM territory. :) :) :)

August 18-19

Weekend Estimates

1 (-) ¥420 million ($5.3 million), 0, The Avengers (Disney) NEW

2 (1) ¥208 million ($2.6 million), -23%, Umizaru: Brave Hearts (Toho) Week 6

3 (2) ¥197 million ($2.5 million), -13%, The Wolf Children Ame and Yuki (Toho) Week 5

4 (4) ¥129 million ($1.6 million), -25%, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted (Paramount) Week 3

5 (6) ¥100 million ($1.3 million), -36%, Pokemon BW: Kyurem Vs. The Sacred Swordsman (Toho) Week 6

6 (5) ¥87 million ($1.1 million), -45%, Kamen Rider Fourze: Everyone, Space is Here! (TOEI) Week 3

7 (3) ¥85 million ($1.1 million), -59%, Total Recall (FOX) Week 2

8 (7) ¥72 million ($910,000), -49%, The Dark Knight Rises (Warner Bros.) Week 4

9 (8) ¥62 million ($775,000), -50%, Naruto: Road to Ninja (Toho) Week 4

10 (-) ¥42 million ($550,000), 0, Fairy Tail: Priestess of the Phoenix (Shochiku) NEW

Not too many changes, but most films saw some hefty Sunday drops since Obon Week just ended.

The ¥420 million estimate for 'The Avengers' would give it the 12th best opening weekend of the year, and a projected 6-day, Obon-Week total around ¥1.3 billion ($16 million) - just shy of 1 million admissions. An impressive week, especially for an American Superhero film, that will probably allow it to reach at least 3 billion (about $40 million) in the end.

'Umizaru 4', 'Wolf Children', and 'Madagascar 3' all hold strong post-Obon meaning they'll continue to stick around in the upcoming weeks.

'Total Recall', 'The Dark Knight Rises', and 'Naruto' all see large drops post-Obon meaning they'll soon disappear from the Top 10.

So 40M projected final. Damn good number. Please come true!

This will place it as the number 4 SH movie in Japan after all the SM1 2 & 3 right?

Hollywood Reporter and Variety always report Friday numbers as part of the weekend gross when it's not.

Maybe but Rth reported 690M for the first 3 days and total of 885M up to Friday. If we add Friday + Sat/Sunday we get 7.7M+ not 6.7M.It's not a big deal. I just wasn't sure if it was still playing in other countries. Edited by druv10

Actuals will come in a few hours, let's see what happens then.

Saturday-Sunday is around 420-440 million ($5.4 million avg.), and with Friday included about 540/550 million ($6.9 million avg.).If Rth is right and the film was at 885 million ($11.2 million) after Friday, then the 6-day total would be 1.4 billion ($17.5 million) making the math work out correctly. $18 million was reported by Variety, though it also says previews were included in that figure, so I assume there were a few showings on Monday, too.The exchange rate has shifted a lot this past week, so the USD totals are probably not going to match up.
