if the movie was getting 1 star ratings across the board then maybe, but it certainly is not

The quality can affect, of course, but it does not imply necessarily a big drop in box office. Look at Avatar or Transformers (I do not say they have similar quality, but none of them deserved the money they did according to their critics)

Transformers and Avatar may have had their flaws, but they were certainly not boring. And they had novelty factor with them.When 'old' people (critics) call a movie slow and boring, then you can conclude for yourself what the WOM will be like among kids/teens/young adults.

Transformers and Pirates had RT scores in the thirties, and both made over a billion, while increasing from their predecessors. Critics are irrelevant, especially for blockbusters.

different people find different things boringwhile a teenager starts his 25th attempt to succeed in a videogame, his father is bored long before thatkids like to hear the same fairytale for 48th time, while their mother can't stand it anymore

Reviews will make barely any difference, if any at all. Especially in most OS markets, like in Asia for example where people love 3D blockbusters.

In Asia, it wasn't gonna be huge anyway. And the main demerit of TH1 is what we give most importance to: slow pace.We can live with loopholes, silly jokes, no character development etc. as long as the pace is good and action keeps happening, but we can't live with a movie which has nothing happening in the first half.
