Will there ever be a BILLION DOLLAR R-rated Film??? - JOKER DOES IT!!!!

Recommended Posts

I think "Reascend" is my favorite title cause of what it means:

Re`as`cend´

(rē`ăs`sĕnd´)

v. i. 1. To rise, mount, or climb again.

v. t. 1. To ascend or mount again; to reach by ascending again.

He mounts aloft, and reascends the skies.

Like you said, it has religious overtones and it can deal with Neo coming back to the matrix.

I think July is better but May is still good. Obviously July 17 is TDK, Inception & TDK Rises so Warner has already had a lot of success with that date.

Look at 2013 that July spot is for Pacific Rim and the DC movie is for June. If its not Batman 4 or a JL movie for 2015 I definitely see the Matrix taking that July spot.

Here are the Top 10 Grossing R-rated Films Worldwide:

2. The Passion of the Christ NM $611.9 $370.8 60.6% $241.1 39.4% 2004^

3. The Hangover Part II WB $581.5 $254.5 43.8% $327.0 56.2% 2011

4. Terminator 2: Judgment Day TriS $519.8 $204.8 39.4% $315.0 60.6% 1991

5. Troy WB $497.4 $133.4 26.8% $364.0 73.2% 2004

10. The Last Samurai WB $456.8 $111.1 24.3% $345.6 75.7% 2003

Only 1 R-rated film crossed 700 Million, Only 1 crossed 600 Million and 2 for 500 Million. We have a lot of 400 or more Million but the question is, is it even possible? or is the audience to limited. This really puts into context how popular "The Matrix Reloaded" was.

1. The Matrix Reloaded WB $742.1 $281.6 37.9% $460.6 62.1% 2003

When adjusted for inflation Matrix Reloaded is likely at or over $1 billion. It is mindbogglingly tedious (not impossible) to adjust WW grosses but that $742m is definitely higher.

That's Possible, I've always wondered if a studio would be willing to spend over 150 million for and still keep it R

Elysium (125M) was close as is Mad Max (130M; not sure if it would be R). Matrix Reloaded was 150M. Could see P2 hitting 150M as Blade Runner. There is also Nemesis, Noah (if R).

By this sight in 2010 it adjust worldwide to 970 Million. So I think only "Reloaded" and "The Exorcsit" adjust to a Billion for R-rated movies.

The Exorcist came out before there was an R rating. Anybody could just waltz into the theater and buy a ticket for it.

I think it'd be best to wait for some footage before speculating about Elysium's budget. And I very much doubt we'll be seeing Matrix 4 as soon as 2015, considering there hasn't been any real talk about it yet and Wachowskis are busy.
