Only 1 R-rated film crossed 700 Million, Only 1 crossed 600 Million and 2 for 500 Million. We have a lot of 400 or more Million but the question is, is it even possible? or is the audience to limited. This really puts into context how popular "The Matrix Reloaded" was.

Yes, when FURY ROAD comes out. :D(Okay, taking off my iJack-persona....)Um.... I don't see why not. You just need someone to make an entertaining franchise that's actually rated R (it can be a soft R). RELOADED would've broken $1b WW if it came out today.

Nope/thread

I really don't think that's the right answer.Inflation never ends. There's going to be an eventual point where crossing $1 Billion is no longer a difficult task. As a matter of fact, if a film just as popular as Matrix Reloaded was released in today's era in 3D, it'd probably have it. Edited by superduperm

Reloaded would have easily done it in this day and age: it's $460m international was in the top 10 highest of all time at that point, I believe. It's just a matter of getting an R-rated that's that popular again, like super said.

Revolutions could have, if it was released a year+ later and was on par or better than Reloaded. I think a Matrix 4 could hit the mark. Battle Angel if it is rated R which I think it would be.

"Revolutions" should of came out in the Summer of 2004 not in the same Year as "Reloaded". But It's funny cause if you add up "Reloaded and Revolutions" that was 1.1 Billion Grossed in 2003 so that might be the closet we've gotten to 1 Billion R-rated Film. Matrix 4 (3D) could be massive but Have a felling if they do it they may try to make it PG13, I hope not though.

Lol, no. I would never say never. Matrix 2, if released today with the same hype and build in from Matrix 1, would have done it. The next worldwide hit novel, if translated amazingly to film, could do it, or maybe its sequel.

Maybe the final THG film can get the R treatment, but for some reason, I don't see that happening. It would allow them to stay more true to the material though.

Yea, never say never. The Passion and Matrix Reloaded released in this day and age certainly would, IMO.

THG needed an R rating to fully work. It works without one, but bottom line, it's more effective in HG's situation to show kids killing each other than to imply it. But yeah, Mockingjay will never get an R rating. Too much potential revenue lost.

In the next 5 years probably not, but it will certainly eventually happen, it just needs to be a big budgeted action positively reviewed one just like Reloaded for it to happen though.
