Awesome for Apes. I hope dragon 2 does not impact it too much next weekend. I hope it cracks 5M admissions.

Kundo is the main worry for apes, Expect the screen count to be Kundo>dragon 2>Apes next week.

Planet of the apes becomes the twelfth film to cross 3 million admissions this year. 2013 had 19 films over this mark so 2014 is on pace to beat that record. It also broke the total admissions for rise of the planet of the apes (2,773,794 admissions) and continues the strong year for foreign releases in the Korean Box office.

The presales for Kundo is looking very strong right now and HTTYD2 looks decent too, so it looks inevitable that apes loses a lot of screens this week. I think it helps slightly that apes has a different demography to Kundo and HTTYD2 but it remains to be seen how well it can hold against them.

Roaring currents starting pre-selling it's tickets too and is already fourth in the presale charts. Expect it to increase dramatically over the next 10 days.

Transformers is nearing the end of it's run. It will likely fall below 10,000 daily admissions sometime in the upcoming week. In admissions it's a great decrease from the 7 million plus of TF3 and TF2. In gross it looks like it will finish somewhere close to TF2 gross of $43,392,124. It's worth noting TF2 had no 3D to inflate the ticket price. On the other hand the 3D+4D share for TF4 is 19.4%.

Awesome list and well done for putting it together.

There's always going to be some nitpicking though with regards to genres :) (THings like Men in Black, Oldboy, Snowpiercer etc being technical comic-book films for example.)

I did notice that 친구 seems to be missing completely. Would that not come under crime or Drama. Or is it another sub cateogry such as mafia/gang?

It really is difficult sorting some movies into specific genres. Animated films for instance isn't really a genre it's a form of media but I lumped it all together anyway as it's more convenient to compare animated films with other animated films. Then you have movies that have numerous overlapping genres which come into conflict on numerous occasions. I did the best I could but there were always going to be discrepancies.

I had no idea men in black was a comic book film. I knew snowpiercer was based on a french graphic novel, I'm not entirely certain what the difference between that and a comic book is but it seemed different enough. Oldboy is very loosely based on a Japanese Manga. Again a case could be made for it being in the CBM genre but I felt the movie version was much more widely known so I opted against. The CBM movies on the list are known equally well for the comic books as well as the film which was my main criteria.

It's not a perfect list so I'm open to suggestions to change it :) men in black will probably have to go in there if what you say is true.

Do you have the national numbers for 친구? I only have the Seoul numbers from Kobis.

edit: I see news reports saying it 친구 (friend) took in over 8,100,000 admissions and it didn't do much business after that. I think it's safe to use it as an estimate unless you have a more accurate figure?

Agree with a lot of that. To be honest when people say CBM they usually mean superhero movie as opposed to there being a comic/manga/graphic novel out there somewhere,

As for Friend, 8.1 is about the figure I'm familar with, but I know its difficult getting real numbers from that period. JSA is the classic example of that for me, in reality it smashed the admissions record on release, but I've seen official numbers for it that claim it didn't even beat Swiri, let alone by 2 million admissions.

Inserted friend and moved MiB3 to CBM. Friend doing 8.1 million admissions in the year 2001 is really surprising though I had no idea the figure was that high.
