Why did it dropped so much for most holdovers ?

Total admissions for Thursday (05/29) was 316,548 which is 12.3% down from 361,164 of last Thursday but still higher than 267,626 admissions of Wednesday (yesterday). The logical conclusion would be that the admissions were more evenly spread out with the overall total coming out similar. As for the old holdovers, they lost a lot of their showtimes to new releases. DoFP lost 20% of it's showtimes the fatal encounter lost 76% and so on.

It'll be interesting to see how the screens will be allocated this weekend.

DoFP is currently ahead of TASM2 and CA2 having played a day less.

DoFP: 2,424,044 (9 days of release)

CA2: 1,984,887 (10 days of release)

TASM2: 2,332,223 (10 days of release)

For TASM2, it is right in the middle of the holidays and it managed another 1,195,525 admissions over the next 4 days. Captain america benefited from playing against zero competition and managed great drops (weekly -22%, -37%, -46.5%, -53.8%) throughout it's run. If Days of future past breaks 600K admissions over saturday and sunday it will have a similar weekly drop of just 23-24%..

South Korea recovered from the downward curve it experienced during the months April and March of 2014. Total admissions for may increased over both 2013 and 2012 and is the biggest May on record. Overall the total admission numbers to date are on par with 2013 which was the record year for admissions in South Korea (213,348,272 admissions).

Interesting to note is that foreign releases and Local films have seen a reverse in fortune compared to the previous year with almost 10 million admission swing between them. Strong performances from the winter soldier, Non-stop, The amazing spider-man, Frozen and now Days of Future past is seen as the main reason, coupled with disappointing turnouts for local films.

The Fatal Encounter for all it's buzz and hype was unable to capitalize on it and although it has managed 3.8 million admissions, it is far below what many people were hoping for this film to achieve. Among local films, Miss Granny and The Target are the only commercial films that have performed above expectations so far this year.   .

June releases to look out for

Edge of tomorrow (06/04)

No Tears for the Dead (06/04)

For the Emperor (06/12)

Transformers: Age of Extinction (06/25)

A Hard day 7.6% (5,474)

Maleficent surpasses the admission figure of Oz: the great and powerful (350,563)

Days of Future past drops % from saturday to reach 3 million admissions. It's having a great run :) weekly drops look like this

wk1: 1,664,576
wk2: 1,347,874 (-19%)

It's second week drop is much smaller than The winter soldier and the amazing spider-man. Legs aren't guaranteed especially with new release upcoming but If it drops in a similar fashion for the remainder of the run then the final figure will look something like this.

wk3: 849,161 (-37%)
wk4: 454,301 (-46.5%)
wk5: 209,888 (-53.8%)

The above is using drops from The winter soldier and if it follows a similar trend then it will end up with 4.5 million admissions plus to become the highest grossing superhero film of 2014. With presales down to fourth though and world cup around the corner it could just as easily miss the target.

Do presales normally drop that much or is that a bad sign?

It's normal. Most people pre-buy tickets for that particular weekend and not the week after. That's why you see the lowest amount of pre-sold tickets on midnight Sunday when all the pre-sold tickets have played out. And since most people go to the theatres during weekends, it generally reaches it's peak around Friday evening of any given week.
