All franchises (e.g. batman) need to prove themselves before they start breaking records and the same goes for an icon like superman. No franchise can simply dominate the boxoffice without having established some faith with the audience, superman was once a boxoffice titan but then came superman 3,4 and SR and superman's good name has been dragged through the mud, so I personally believe that to the general audience MOS is just another SR until proven otherwise.
