It's a shame..and they charge more for the 3D showing too, despite the obvious fact it's the crappier format. Of course there's always a lot of controversy in Korea when a film opens to such a huge screen count, and just to reiterate, Infinity War will open with the highest number of screens to date at a percentage of a whopping 57%. This statistic looks even worse when you consider that the showing for the other films are situated in unfavorable times (early morning/late night) screen count on opening day (Data provided by Kofic) (2018) 2563 The Avengers: Infinity War pt.1 (2017) 2026 The Battleship Island (2016) 1864 Captain America: Civil War (2015) 1731 The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2017) 1703 Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) 1687 Kingsman: Golden Circle (2017) 1601 Thor: Ragnarok (2016) 1571 Train to Busan (2017) 1538 Along with the gods (2017) 1446 A Taxi Driver There's been increasing talk about possible regulations to counterbalance this situation which is bad news for us fans of record breaking BO numbers, and theater owners would probably hate it too. But it does seem like a practical necessity to promote an atmosphere of a sustainable and diverse film industry going forward. I'm curious though, do other countries regulate screens so that a particular film can't dominate completely? The articles I read say that it's a problem relevant to South Korea more than it is in other countries.
