CJohn Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Sony paid a big ammount of money to distribute this, but District 9 only made about 95M OS.Predictions:CJohn - 245M Quote
A Marvel Fanboy Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Russia OW looks to be $6M. That is much less than Oblivion's 9.3M. So 200M OS probably not happening after all. Quote
fmpro Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Sony will loose money on this unless they get dvd, BR, Tv, VOD ect also Quote
Neo Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Sony will loose money on this unless they get dvd, BR, Tv, VOD ect also With a 125M budget, 250M+ is good. 130M DOM and 120M OS, no? Would be enough. Quote
Dilusha Bandara Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 To get 250 OS, Elysium needs to breakout in a big market! Like Retaliation did in China! Quote
A Marvel Fanboy Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Sony expects Elysium to be a sizeable player overseas, where it opened in its first 17 territories over the weekend, earning a promising $10.9 million for a worldwide total of $41.4 million. Russia led with $6.8 million, 46 percent ahead of District 9. The film took in $1.7 million in Taiwan, the biggest opening for a Damon film and seven times the opening of District 9. It will roll out across the rest of the world over the next several weeks. The movie did huge business in IMAX theaters, grossing $6.1 million worldwide, a record for August. In the U.S., 328 IMAX screens turned in $4.9 million -- or 16 percent of the total gross. Quote
Fullbuster Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Because they always open first. To be fair, only China has bigger OW, Russia's OW are usually bigger than in France, Germany or Spain, and can compete with the UK. Quote

Fullbuster Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Usually ... Mexico, Brazil can also surprise. Of course. Quote
Will Hunting Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 I wouldnt rule out 200m yet. Matt Damon has star power in Europe and that Taiwan opening is impressive. Russia is strong enough too. Quote
zackzack Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 This will do excellent business in China if Sony does the pr right. Quote
Heretic Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Russia's openings are fantastic, but in terms of totals, it still lags far behind the UK, France and Germany. Most films don't get above $30m, and very, very rarely above $50m. Quote
Fancyarcher Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Russia's openings are fantastic, but in terms of totals, it still lags far behind the UK, France and Germany. Most films don't get above $30m, and very, very rarely above $50m. That's because films over their tend to be frontloaded. Quote
DeeCee Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I'm in the same theatre in which I watched a preview for NYSM last week. There are less people here for the Elysium preview. Quote
