A Marvel Fanboy
Did The Aurora Shootings Ruin Midnight Movies? So no big midnight opening for later movies anymore ? BD2 will suffer too.
Gideon
I would bet on it.It's the final act after all.Let's hope nothing "crazy" happens for this one too.
baumer
But you're completely forgetting that the people watching the film DIED. They were shot to death. Surely some people thought twice about going to the movies this weekend because of that. When you see an accident in front of you on the highway, do you stop driving? baumer
Please stop.Too much logic for you? I apologize.
lab276
There was a shooting on Reloaded's first weekend. 3 or 4 people died then too.I've never heard that before ever. Could you provide a link?
TLK
Problem is that if Saturday stays flat then it may not even make 150 million OW. There are no guarantees that Saturday will be better than Friday considering presales accounted for a big part of its 40 million.

CJohn
People are coming up with theories, but I think it's really simple. The shooting had a massive effect. That's it.This.
lab276
Probably, but $200m wasn't possible, even without this tragedy. But surely $180m?
Gideon
Under SM3 OW adjusted then?
baumer
Did The Aurora Shootings Ruin Midnight Movies? So no big midnight opening for later movies anymore ? BD2 will suffer too. That's laughable. Midnights will go on. They are huge money machines for Hollywood. BD2 will still do it's 30-35 mill at midnight.
Noctis
I still don't see how it only did $39.6m post-midnight.

lab276
When you see an accident in front of you on the highway, do you stop driving?Because you have to drive to go to work to make money. Movie going is only about entertainment, you lose nothing for not going.

pixiesvision
Sorry, don't buy it. People get shot, killed, massacred all the time in the US. Why would this be any different?People get shot all the time. Massacres do not happen all the time. I absolutely believe the shooting had an effect. I've talked to some people and seen on places like Tumblr, Livejournal, Twitter, and Facebook where people said they felt uncomfortable going to see the movie this weekend. Some said they got refunds and plan to see it another time. About 10 co-workers of mine said the same, and most of my family are planning to see it another time instead of this weekend. Gideon
That could be the first franchise with part3 100M less than part 2 but still 200M more than part one.
CJohn
It is clear now that the shooting had a huge effect. 70M is a huge disappointment.
