Ultimately, it's Cameron, Lucas, Scorsese, Soderbergh, Fincher, etc saying how much digital has progressed, and Christopher Nolan and Wally Pfister shaking their heads. But it does provoke a discussion about the evolution of the digital medium that's really worth having, and though Side by Side comes to the conclusion that digital is the new mainstay for the industry, the fact that film can be archived (and digital can't) and that digital itself is striving to look like film raises some interesting ideas. It's available on iTunes for a $7 rental and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes film enough to post on this website. It's super relevant (which is nice because digital is evolving everyday) and endlessly captivating. And who of us doesn't want to hear these guys talk about their medium?
