Top Horror films of the last 15 years: All opinions welcome

Recommended Posts

I really liked The Descent, I highly recommend that one. Easily the best horror film made in the last 15 years be a LONG shot. Just awesome.

The Blair Witch Project was an excellent one as well, the only movie thats ever creeped me out.

I see some people are mentioning torture porn movies like Hostel, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and the Saw series. I don't think those are scary, they're just gross. I'd also say zombie flicks have been so overdone that its not even funny.

Have you seen the TCM? It's hardly torture porn, it was actually probably the best horror remake we've gotten since they became popular, though I did really enjoy My Bloody Valentine (for being awesomely silly) and The Crazies (for just being a good fuckin' movie). Edited by Kevin Bacon

Great post Kevin. TCM is not torture porn at all. It was incredibly faithful to the original without copying it. It added it's own touch and imo it is the best American horror remake. It also helped that it had Daniel Pearl DP'ing it, as he did the first as well.

10) Eden Lake: 4/10 - Sick. Horrible film. Do not think they should be promoting this type of behaviour.

9) The Devil's Rejects: 0/10 - Sick. Lowest common denominator horror.

8) Martyrs: N/A

7) The Crazies: 6/10 - Not bad. Enjoyable but not scary in the slightest. More of an action movie.

6) The Fourth Kind: N/A

5) I Spit on Your Grave 2010: N/A

4) Paranormal Activity 1 and 2: 10/10 - Masterpieces.

3) The Blair Witch Project: 1/10 - Crap. So crap. Give me pity, NOW!

2) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: 4/10 - A bit crap, but not awful.

1) The Ring: 7/10 - Good. Just good. Scary, eerie, yeah, actually it was better than 'just good', now I am remembering it, it was pretty good.

I've only seen the 2003 remake and the 2006 sequel, and its pretty much torture porn, the sequel more so.. I agree they're not quite on the level of the Hostel and Saw movies, but they're still largely torture porn IMO. These movies work better as comedies IMO. The leads afterall(Jessica Biel, Jordana Brewster), were like the hottest chicks they could find.

Cool list Baumer. From those i 've seen The Devil's Rejects is the only one i find pretty bad. I didn't enjoy some of them as much as you did but it's a nice list.Let me give mine1. The Mist2. The Others3. 28 Days Later4. Inside5. Frozen6. Session 97. The Descent8. Scream 29. The Strangers10. Dawn of the DeadAnd i don't consider Sleepy Hollow, The Sixth Sense, Triangle, I Saw the Devil or Cube horror films so i don't list them and the first Scream is over 15 years ago.
