GML! By the way, recently I noticed that iqiyi shows movies such as MH. It in fact has 120m views and counting. Is this another way movies earn money in China? MinaTakla
Tuesday is still holiday, IO OD is just so-so. Do you see it crossing 40m USD by the end of its run? MU made 33m..

Infernus
It will be difficult since WOM is just above average. So most probably it's looking to end somewhere slightly above 35m? Well that's alright I guess. 850m still happening. Edited October 6, 2015 by Infernus
MrFanaticGuy34
Not enough jokes like the Minions...or was IO's premise too uninteresting for China to begin with?

Mojoguy
China doing what they do best, being unpredictable as hell when it comes to how much American blockbusters there.
Infernus
Actually this is one of those rare movies that played very close to the expectations. Most of them were between 30-50m and its looking at a total exactly in the middle of that range. A few did predict a little higher (60-70m at best) but those were just hopeful predictions and the predictors themselves realised that. Wasn't talking specifically about IO, but Hollywood films in general. People had some crazily high predictions for Minions there. Animation is underperforming there this year. People need to dial back their predictions.
MrFanaticGuy34
Well, animated films that aren't KFP-related, rarely makes over $100M-150M in China.
seduh
I hoped for more but it was expected to do that (IO). I hope for a +$30 total. GML is a monster, the sky is the limit right now
POTUS 2020
Presales up 5% over yesterday for GML. It now has 29% of shows. Today will play like a Sunday so I expect this evening to be weaker and expect a drop. 100m+/-5m. It will be interesting to see what happens Saturday. With many talking about it at work tomorrow, we may see the bandwagon get jumped on as nothing draws a crowd like a crowd. A bump over yesterdays number could lead it to 2B+. IO, LiHK and Chronicle looking to drop 20-25%. LiHK is losing steam fast. Chronicle has been closing the daily gap on LiHK. Its ahead in presales today
scoobysaurus
I don't like how people start bashing an entire country just because their preferred movies don't do so well over there. Not everyone is obliged to have the same taste in movies as you.
sgchn40
Well, there are huge differences in taste among different groups of Chinese too. Chinese in Singapore, for example, hardly watches any Chinese movies these days. MH is not a hit in Hong Kong. Taiwan loves making art house movies and pretty much nothing else. POTUS 2020
Or they don't have a tast if Things don't explode (Just lost all my respect for this market ) I don't like how people start bashing an entire country just because their preferred movies don't do so well over there. Not everyone is obliged to have the same taste in movies as you. Its not just china, Its been a WW trend toward more mindless action/explosion movies for the last 30 years. Just look at the top ten in BOM's domestic yearly chart from the early 80's until now. More realistic plot driven movies with lots of character development and slow paced build ups, The top ten now for domestic and WW is mostly toons, SH in tights and unreal ridiculous stunted action. SK has their shit together. movies like Cell No 99 and Roaring Currents are recent movies that made it into their top ten all time that have very good heartfelt stories and characters, not reliant on animation, cgi, and people ludicrously defying natural law.
