HTTYD2 was at 16000 the day it opened. This will double that.

 

The number usually doubles each of the last 3 days

Could be 120k+. Decent number

 

 

Nice hold yesterday on MI5, better than JW's. Looks like another good hold of -10% today as well. If it follows the patterns of other blockbusters this year it could do 11x 2nd day + OD, then were looking at 960m/$150m,  1B likely with these early holds. 

To match JW, 15x 2nd day +OD(the only HLWD film to deviate the pattern), then it will need the big Fri/Sat bump, hold well against minions(different demo I assume, just a matter of screen count) and have a huge hold the following weekend.

 

Not ruling 1.27B/$200m out for now, but it will be a feat.

Presales for animated films mean little. I predicted Minions 200m and MI5 90m Sunday but at this point, MI5 will fall short of 90m. Looks like $200m, maybe even less, is the best number MI5 can get after the big Wed/Thu drops.

 

Apparently a lot of Chinese audience perfer those overthetop actions/special effects in flicks like F7 than plot/dialogue-filled MI5s. They are disappointed because of the lack of big set pieces seen in MI4. Malposed expecations I guess. (Can paramout do a Fast Furous style no brainer MI next time ?   for numbers sake)

 

Anything over $160m is still a good result (unless Minions completely kills it, MI5 should still rank in the top 10 of the year, though the lowest rank among the MI franchise) but just not the kind of blockbusters most hoped for. A regret.

 

I still don't think Minions will out do MI5 in total, even if Minions does 200m+ Sunday. Animations always drop to the groud on September workdays.

Friday is too low I think. If it barely increases on Friday then WOM must be really terrible. But its WOM is decent/mixed. Elder or moreexperienced audience consider it franchise best while newbie audience think it's not exciting at all.
