So what total are we looking for THE HOBBIT: TDOS in China? What happened to "The release date of this is terrible" thingy? lol

The release date is bad obvious. Poor weekday gross says all. In a normal market, A level blockbusters (like yearly top 20) wouldnot choose to open on slots like this.

 

Post Spring holiday and (students) winter holiday Febuary/early March in China is exactly similar to post New Year holiday January in US. No studio will open a 150m/200m budgeted tentpole on such dates.

Does anyone know how much AUJ did on its first Wednesday? I have only found Tuesday (17 million) and Thursday (11). Just to keep the comparison.

DOS's dailies are still 50% ahead of AUJ. AUJ grossed 150m after Wednesday. If DOS remains 50% ahead during its entire run, then it will gross another 225m, taking the final total to 497m. So 500m is going to be very close.

And even with a bad release date DOS will probably make over 80 million $. What could have it grossed with a good date? It would probably be in 100-125 range.
