riczhang
les mis is over rated , its rt is only 72% not indicative of award buzzdu looks like about 140-50mAnd yet again people are saying critics vote for Oscar. Ridiculous. AMPAS hardly ever goes with the critical darling which is more often than not too cold an clinical for them. They like their movies emotional, and sappy. Les Mis is both and the Academy loves it.

druv10
les mis is over rated , its rt is only 72% not indicative of award buzzdu looks like about 140-50mRT means very little towards award. Crash won it with 76%.Plus LM is definitely up the Academy's ally. It wouldn't surprise me, if it actually won. fishstick
No show for anything was sold out when I left TH at 6:20pm. My TH show was half full also so I guess the whole day was less busy.
Poseidon
We know that critics seem to have a problem with movies touching your heart.Best examples in the past are "The Blind Side" with 66% and "The Help" with 76% fresh. Both connected very well with "normal" people, that do not overanalize movies and don't get scared to tell it to the world, if a movie touches their hearts. Dementeleus
No, it's just that they don't do anything particularly interesting in that regard.

They are more in touch with the people's loves than critics are despite what some critics may say or dream of though that's not saying too much sometimes.Academy had its worst years of viewership when they were shepparded into rewarding the critical darling. See NCFOM. THL is an anomaly because of Avatar which was bound to boost viewership. Edited December 28, 2012 by riczhang
Dementeleus
They = The CriticsThey = "The Help" and "The Blind Side"?Either way, i don't quite understand your point. They = the movies. Average people see only a few movies a year and want to feel happy and like all the characters. They don't mind cliches or unoriginal plot points. Critics see hundreds of movies a year. They have little leeway with cliches because they are them constantly. On the flip side, they don't mind darker, more ambiguous characters and plots. It's not necessarily that one group is objectively right or wrong, it's that they're looking for different things.

Fake
Pretty good for TH1. I was expecting 10m.... so held a bit better.I say:Fri: 11.7m (+14%)Sat: 12.6m (+8%)Sun: 10.7m (-15%)35m weekend. And if the LM/DU numbers hold, TH1 will likely win the weekend as well.

Gopher
You don´t think that Texas C can do that?Never underestimate a horror movie post newyearsOh, forgot about that one... that's probably good for 20 million minimum and Hobbit should fall below that threshold. Django and Les Mis could be some of the highest grossing films to not reach #1 on any weekend.
