85th Academy Awards (24/2/13) Official Thread- TONIGHT!! NOMINEES IN THE FIRST POST

Recommended Posts

If Silver Linings Playbook wins Best Picture then I will never pay attention to Oscars again. Not that it is a bad movie , it is just that the movie is neither the Best of the year nor would it be a serious contender for BP without Weinstein machine backing it. What is the point of following an awards show if the most important criteria is whether or not a movie was distributed by Harvey Weinstein in the US? I wasn't a big fan of The Artist winning it all either but convinced myself that the year was weak in terms of quality movies. That's not an excuse this year.

If SLP wins, I will lol so far. It has no precusor support. The only thing it has going for it is being nominated in every major cat which hasn't happened in over 30 years. This is such a weird year for Oscards. Lots of uncertainty this year. Still though, Argo has about a 95% chance of winning BP.

It's not gonna win. There's no support for it. I'm thinking that it could pull off screenplay though. BAFTA did full membership voting this time so its winners are to be taken with much more credibility than normal.

Is it strange and weird that I'm getting more and more confident in Riva? I know I should be uneasy because the race will be close but I'm actually getting quite confident now. She's surging.

No, actually the opposite would be.

Oscar Nominee Questionnaires from 67 nominees. Some of them are like 1 liners, but all of them are fascinating to read. (And Read Riva's. It's so elegant, especially dat French. I can only dream of writing like that. It's simple and flows like a dream.)

Such a load of BS! SLP is imo the best film of the year. It's head and shoulders above any film nominated this year except Argo. It has nothing to do with Harvey this time. It has been nominated for every acting category, picture and director. You can have your opinion that it is not one of the best but it is just your opinion. It is not because of Hrvey.

It is your opinion that the movie is the best of the year. Maybe you can relate to a movie about a washed up middle-aged guy getting to fuck a girl almost half his age but I don't. There is absolutely nothing special about the movie apart from the actors. I have no problem with either Lawrence or DeNiro winning but compared to some other nominees the movie shouldn't even make the Top 5 for either BP or BD. The story is pedestrian so is the direction. The movie is in running because of Harvey Weinstein. End of Story.
