Just re-watched this, first time in 5/6 years. Wow, now that is a blockbuster superhero movie. A top 3 superhero movie along with TDK and Spider-Man 2 possibly. The cinematography and editing are spot on.

I really love the tone and atmosphere, it may be the best blend of comic/reality.

X2: X-Men United improves on the first film in an unbelievable way. The only character that feels underused this go-around is Cyclops, and even though Wolverine is still undeniably the lead, the other X-Men are used in spotlight fashion, where you're gonna be happy how all them are used. A particular highlight is Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler, who both has an awesome design and intriguing characteristics. He, along with Magneto and Mystique, steal the show thanks to excellent acting and very neat power usage. The plotline is much more complex than the first film's, but yet, is rather simple to follow in a refreshing way. Every scene counts in this film, and the pacing is super solid. X2: X-Men United is a sequel that easily improves on the original and also a dang great superhero film. B+

Only watch it once. I remember liking the first half a lot, then being a little bored when they were confined to that underground fort at the end. It's funny how this was the go-to 'best Marvel film' for quite a while.

Pretty much this and Spiderman 2 were the pinnacle of Comic Book films till BB and IM and TDK came out.

X2 is a brilliant achievement in blockbuster filmmaking. Every scene adds thrills, and the film utilizes its excellent cast almost to its full potential (Marsden gets short-changed a bit, but that about the only problem here). Stryker is an excellent villain, bringing a more unique threat to superhero films than its contemporaries, and Nightcrawler is the best addition in the series' history, bringing a beautiful heart, wonderfully realized by Cumming's delightful performance. The entire last hour is possibly Singer's finest, weaving together every plot strand in a magnificent symphony of action and character moments. X2 is spectacular in every sense of the word; a blockbuster that still holds up today thanks to its strong characters and fantastic direction. A
