So, race b/w bahubali and dangal dor WW crown is still on.

After looking at this weekend, where Baahubali 2 has slowed down considerably, and Dangal is just refusing to let up in China, I daresay Dangal now looks to have the upper hand in the race, and should surpass Bahubali 2 soon.

But Baabhubali 2 has a few markets yet to open (incl. China). So the race won't be decided, until later.

Movie tickets are going to be taxed at 28% under GST from July onwards. Previously, the tax rates used to vary from 0% to 110% in various states, with the average tax incidence for Bollywood movies being in the 35-40% range (now there will be a uniform tax rate across India). So Bollywood movies will benefit mostly. The ratio between nett and gross would be a fixed 1:1.28 now.

But regional movies will be disadvantaged, as local language movies in many states either had concessional tax rates or zero tax rates.

As expected, The Mummy opened well in India because of the brand name and Tom Cruise, but wom is bad so it might crash and burn fast.

If only this movie was any good. Sigh.

given the type of movies they enjoy there, and in china too, I'm surprised WOM is bad in these places.

So Wonder Woman beat Baywatch last weekend? Surprising. I thought BW's OS popularity and Priyanka Chopra's presence would help boost its performance.

Quote

This week is mainly dominated by two Hollywood releases and Wonder Woman easily crushed the much hyped Baywatch at the box office in India. Wonder Woman was released with no promotion and in just English rather than the the four language release of English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

It managed to collect 2.50 crore nett on day one which is a pretty good collection for a film which is releasing in English only. The film managed to pick up well in the evening shows and should come out with a healthy weekend.

I think WB should have released dubbed versions of WW. The interest seemed to have been there.

Families wouldn't go watch a Baywatch movie, and the awful reviews and bad domestic performance turned away the youth who went to watch WW instead.

Deepika's XXX3 did 5 times the business of Baywatch.

Watched Bahubali Part 2 at home.

Some of the CGI goes way over the top such as the infamous throwing soldier over the wall....(cringe)

If you thought Sunny Deol taking a water pump in Gadar was crazy then Bahubali rips out a God Damn Tree. The stunts like that while over the top make you go wohhh

The movie makes up with a pretty entertaining and mythological based plotline which frankly will satisfy any fan of indian mythological culture and lore.

8.5/10

Tubelight has flopped miserably. The first trailer was so awful. How could the filmmakers have accepted this to do well? Salman khan playing a mentally challenged person does not appeal to his fanbase at all.  Also, sohail+salman combo has never worked for audience.  On top of that, this didn't seem to have any of the commercial elements of his previous 5-6 movies. It simply looked boring as hell from first trailer and the actual movie turns out to be a remake of "Little Boy" which itself flopped miserably at the boxoffice as well as critically.  <150 cr on a 150+ cr budget and sold on exorbitant prices to distributors. DISASTER.

Salman better hope that Tiger Zinda Hai shapes out well and breaks a few records to do 300+ cr during Christmas. It has potential to do even 400+ but that will depend on quality, competition and the buzz at that time.

Bahubali 2 record is safe for some time.

From the first trailer I thought it looked like a "Little Boy" remake with a 50 year old man instead. Apparently they did buy the rights though.
