Most impressive directorial debut

Recommended Posts

Ridley Scott (Alien), Orson Welles (Citizen Kane) and Quentin Tarantino (Reservoir Dogs) spring to mind. Neil Blomkamp's District 9 was great too.Just found this very cool list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_directorial_debutsWhat are some of your favorites?Edit: coolioD1 correctly noted that Ridley's first film was The Duelist

Citizen Kane seems tough to top. But I noticed:John Huston - Matlese FalconSidney Lumet - 12 Angry MenMel Brooks -The ProducersRoman Polanski - Knife in the WaterWes Craven - Last House on the LeftRobert Redford - Ordinary PeopleKind of crazy how some director's debuts are their best films, or some go down in history. While some others are just there but it leads to bigger and better things.
