  1. I agree with you Water Bottle, and I also agree with Shawn. Mr. Lucas should have stopped reading the Internet. He claims that he felt like these fan scripts and whatnot was like having Hollywood trying to tell you what to do, but he could have avoided looking at the scripts. Although, he is a pretty crappy writer. He has good ideas, but there are certain things he can't execute well. Anyway, I don't feel sorry for Lucas. He is a billionaire, and he did get to make the movies he wanted to make. Especially, the prequels. He funded them, wrote them, directed them, and was involved every step of the way.
  2. I watched the first 45 mins of LOTR. The pacing seems so bad after watching the LOTR trilogy so many times. And, the animation gets annoying at times.
  3. Ah, I see. Yah, that sucks.
  4. Doesn't she know that movies aren't real. And, anyway, Edit--I'm thinking that we may yet see a BP/BD split.
  5. Would be funny if The Help took BP, but it is only nominated in 3 categories with 4 noms total, plus it doesn't have an editing nom or a directing nom. If it won, that would totally go against Oscar history and actually a bigger upset than win Crash won over Brokeback Mountain
  6. Ha ha, turned down LOTR and Matrix roles.
  7. I think you jinxed the Oscars this year. lol
  8. This pretty much cements The Artist as winner for the Oscar this year both BP and BD. I thought a BD/BP split might happen, but not even that will happen this year.
  9. I actually think in the long run this film will be very much be remembered as a classic.
  10. If you are going to make a case against TDKR, then yes, Nolan has to be dragged into it. Because let's face it, it's about Nolan. And, I'm saying if TDKR is as good as Inception and TDK then it will get the nom. If it sucks, then of course it won't get a BP nom. I'm surprised you are asking what this has to do with Nolan. TDKR getting a nom has everything to do with Nolan. Anyway, DH2 had a lot going for it, but not quite the backlash that has happened for Nolan. People were okay with DH1 not getting the nom. The other 6 never got BP noms and no one complained or felt the other six deserved a BP nom. People felt TDK was robbed of BP/BD noms. The next year as result, the Academy changes the rules to nominate more movies so films like TDK stand a chance at getting a nom. Last year, Inception gets a BP nom but gets snubbed for BD. As a result, all hell breaks lose over the Internet. Thus, creating even more momentum in favor of Nolan and TDKR. DH2 never had that kind of momentum behind it. I would also like to add that Nolan has had the most DGA nominations without a single BD nom. This further fuels TDKR chances at a BP nom because the Academy now is under a lot of pressure to nominate him for director, and if Nolan gets in for director, then his film for sure is getting a BP nom.
  11. Here is my most up-to-date list:1. The Artist2. Hugo3. X-Men: FC4. Harry Potter DH25. Rise of the Planet of the Apes6. Mission Impossible 47. The Descendants8. Rango9. Captain America10. Kung Fu Panda 211. Thor12. Pirates: On Stranger Tides13. The Adjustment Bureau14. Cars 215. Transformers 3
  12. No, DH2 had nothing go for it except being the last Potter film. Nolan has a strong resume behind him plus everything else that others have stated about coming off of Inception and TDK and the Academy changing the rules, etc. etc. etc. Now, for Potter. First, DH2 is half a movie and the first half wasn't nominated for BP. Second of all, the first half is probably the better of film. Third of all, the films are of mixed quality, some better than others and some worse than others. Nolan is consistent. Also, the film series as a whole doesn't deserve to get a BP nom because most of the past Potter films aren't worthy of such a nomination. And, on its own, I don't think DH2 stands that well. You need to watch at least DH1 with DH2 to get maximum enjoyment out of it. I can very much see why it got snubbed. I kind of makes a lot of sense that it did when you think about it.
  13. Well, at least 5 percent of the Academy liked it. Anyway, I haven't heard too many on these boards chiming in and saying they have seen it either. It seems only a few people have watched it so far. But, yah, it is quit interesting that it got in. But, unlike others, I am not shocked. I don't know why, but I figured with lack of good nom choices except Hugo and The Artist, the Academy would vote on a punch of random stuff and that seems to be what happened. I guess the lack of strong films made it so I wasn't surprised by it getting nominated. If this was 2012 and TDKR got snubbed and it got in, then I would be shocked.
  14. As Shawn said, this year The Artist is all but a lock. The only way that will change is if we see either a DGA or SAG upset. Otherwise, The Artist will win, and I don't think it will win just Best Picture, I see it potentially getting up to 8 awards.
  15. Yes, but ratings inspired them to change the nominee system so that movies like TDK have a shot at getting a nomination.
  16. I think they are going to give this system one more year, especially because they know TDKR and The Hobbit are coming up and the big reason for the 10 nominee change in the first place was to get better ratings. To have 5 nominees next year would mean TDKR and The Hobbit would have good chances at snubs, and I am not sure they would want to risk that. I could see them potentially going back to 5 nominees in 2013 depending on how things work out next year.
  17. If TDKR is pretty good, it will get a nom. It won't get ignored next year.Anyway, I disagree with Sasha. This experiment of 5-10 nominees hasn't failed. This wasn't going to be an amazing year for nominees no matter how you cut it. There weren't any blockbuster level films or very many mainstream movies for that matter worthy of nom. Last year, Inception and TS3 deserved their noms. This year, nothing really stands out as being worthy. Next year will be different.
  18. Am I the only one who feels that Hugo and The Artist were both really good films deserving of their noms?
  19. That would have been epic if you said that last year. Oh, the irony. Too bad the thread you said it in doesn't exist.
  20. This is kind of hard for me. I haven't seen as many films this year as I normally do, and I plan on seeing a bunch within the next couple of weeks, but from what I've seen so far.1. The Artist2. X-Men: FC3. Harry Potter DH24. Rise of the Planet of the Apes5. Mission Impossible 46. The Descendants7. Rango8. Captain America9. Rango10. Transformers 3 :( :(As you can tell by my tenth selection, I have a lot of catching up to do on 2011 movies.
  21. I saw The Artist yesterday. I really liked it a lot. I wasn't sure how I would feel about it, but I felt it was pulled off well. If it wins BP, I feel it will be the best BP winner since NCFOM. Although, I don't think that is saying much since the last three BP winners werent' all that exciting. At least, not to me, anyway. And, I agree Shawn, Descendants is sort of like Up in the Air, except that Up in the Air was a much better movie overall, and I would have been okay with it winning BP. While I think Descendants is good, it is nothing that I am excited about. But, that is just me.
