How is that even possible especially when McCarthy is far and away the biggest draw? They have done nothing right with this film from pre production to post release.
WWW with GB was Sony hiring a political consultant to "help" with marketing. I cant prove they did this but it just smells like it was done because why else would a generic blockbuster twitter account endorse a candidate for office? There is also too many different places using the same language with the same general talking points on the same day. And only a hack politico would think its a brilliant idea to have the cast and crew insult the audience justified or not.
Will see but always weary of Tupac documentaries and well any mention as every rewrites history with him. Also still holding out hope for a mini series like American Crime Story on Luke Campbell as it really has it all.
And movies are getting much deeper discounts on sale prices much sooner after release. Deadpool is an advertised deal this week for 12 dollars on Blu Ray and was released just 7 weeks ago.
This cant be said enough. Execs know when they green light a Kids movie that it will take higher attendance to achieve the same revenue as a movie that is aimed at adults. Execs know they can help their gross with large format theaters and 3D which is why there is such demand for Imax screens for blockbusters and so many 3D conversions. If the goal was attendance instead execs would do things very differently. They would first radically extend if not end the home video market. No Blu Ray, no DVD, No HBO and No TNT. They would dramatically lower the ticket prices. They would give theaters a much larger cut of the sales. Even a Batman v Superman would have at least another 5 million in attendance in this kind of world.
There is nothing to feel guilty about. The worst of this franchise is still better then at least 3 of the last 7 best picture winners and its easily the best franchise going well this and Rocky.
I really don't know which of these 2 movies I have seen the most but Speed and Die Hard are easily 1 and 2 for me.
Smokey and the Bandit is up there.
Die Hard 2
Predator
Commando
Matrix
Syriana
Godfather
Scarface
Beerfest
Chinatown
Enter the Dragon
These are the others that are easily up there. Well to be honest Howard the Duck probably should be on this list because I watched it a ton as a kid but have not watched it since I was a kid.
The move to the internet might have been inevitable, Netflix used predatory pricing to build their marketshare they still cant make money from streaming and have yet again pushed back when they will hit profitability. Not to completely let the studios off the hook as they where idiots by allowing Netflix to devalue the studios product just for a short term boost.
As of a couple years ago the margins for studios where half of what they where in 2005 and the trend of course was smaller margins. Netflix price dumping is the reason why studios would be stupid to make anything but high concept presold properties.
WWW is the Martian, the Intern, Sicario, Black Mass, and Everest. Theaters are packed with movies aimed at adults which The Walk was aimed at and something had to give. They needed to move the date as Alpha said above to give it a chance.
Furious 7 is a better film then at least 3 of the last 5 best picture winners (Artist, the Nazi King's Speech and Birdman) and I say that with no hyperbole.
FYI all those that have been waiting for the Bad Boys 2 blu ray like myself its coming out next month if you did not already know. Its being packaged with Bad Boys 1 and amazon currently has it on pre order for I think 20 I paid maybe 25.
Fast is a bigger franchise then anything Marvel has outside of the Avengers. Along with being a much better and more important then any other franchise out there.
This is going to sweep the Oscars (its about Hollywood so its at least 6-4 against the field) and looks a little more audience friendly then Birdman so I will go with 50 million Dom.
