  1. Was I the only guy kind of surprised by how wistful and contemplative everything felt? He seriously had me believing for a few minutes that this was just going to be a movie about kids trying to understand old people. Anyway, this is solid. I like the characters (TWO leading teenagers, count 'em, and they're both good), I like the found footage conceit, and the final 20 minutes or so is terrifying. Gonna go with baumer's grade because why not?
  2. Furious 7's OS performance may be the most shocking of the year. The 6th one did pretty well OS and then the seventh comes closer to the Camerons than we thought possible for any sequel.
  3. The reaction seems to be that this could've been an all-timer in Fincher's hands.
  4. Biggest story of Friday is that THESE TWO GUYS ARE NECK AND NECK AGAIN IO 500k JW 450k Also War Room 2.25, Walk 2.15 Compton 2.1 Transporter 2.1 MI5 1.75
  5. DOPE is going wide again this weekend. FURY ROAD is returning to IMAX a week after it hit shelves. That should tell you how desperate theaters are for content.
  6. I was a Les Mis defender (I still like a lot of that movie) but I was bored stiff by King's Speech and this seems twice as cloying.
  7. They did a smart thing with Bats vs. Supes. MOS was terrible and had terrible word of mouth. A sequel would've decreased for sure. SOC 5.8 War Room 3.9 MI5 3.7 No Escape 3.4 #WAYF #18
  8. WAYF was acquired for 2 mil and most of its marketing seemed to be in social media. Who knows why WB bought it in the first place but they didn't put any gusto behind it, except for a fairly wide screen count (which.. geez.. lots of empty seats in theaters this weekend already).
  9. Idk what to expect from next weekend? Compton seems to be dropping too fast to 4peat but I don't get the sense Transporter will do much better than Hitman. Maybe War Room could lead with a nice theater expansion. Wouldn't be surprised if we get a ton of reissues next week on top of AOU and IO. Anything else need to hit a milestone?
  10. War Room 4ish, hard to tell how previews factor in with this one Compton 3.7 No White People! 2.4 WAYF #14th place
  11. We as a nation need to send Austraia a statue of Imperator Furiosa to show our gratitude for this movie.
  12. All power to you. I had a good enough time but I want to see Aardman try new things. For their first feature in three years I'm a little bummed to see them sticking so close to their guns.
  13. Seven reviews for a major summer hit is baffling. Especially one as interesting as this one (no matter which way you end up on it).
  14. You guys are raving about this? It's cute and smile-worthy in most of its scenes but beyond the mere animation there's nothing special here, and nothing Aardman hasn't done a million times.
  15. Usually loathe Richie's work (all obnoxious style and a hollow center) but even as just a genre exercise, UNCLE works! It's pretty good! The three leads are super well cast, the costumes are on point, and it's never not entertaining. Cavill is a standout. He's wasting his time playing a young mopey Superman. This guy belongs in so many great period roles.
  16. Don't look now but Pixels is gonna reach a 3x. Even an anaemic performance can be propped up by summer weekdays. Ant-Man's got a shot at 180m now. That would put its IM pretty close to Guardians.
  17. Not all of it works (Topher in particular went in and out for me) but I enjoyed a lot of it. Seems destined for a long life on Netflix. baumer's right in that the film takes its stupidity really seriously and it pays off. I thought the scene in the middle with Stewart confrontinh Eisenberg in the car as he's remembering details and wondering if he's a robot was magical. Like something from Upstream Color plucked into a weird genre movie. The movie as a whole feels incredibly romantic and expectedly Eisenberg/Stewart nail it. Also shoutout to Walton Goggins who has 2-3 scenes that straight-up steal the movie.
  18. I've never really understood this train of thought? You could be surprised if so few critics stand up for a movie (like I was for Ultra) but comments like 'that should've been 30-40% at least on RT' are saying 'more rando critics should've enjoyed it' as opposed to 'the film is not that bad'.
