  1. Seeing as how the new Indy is at least 4 years away and Harrison is in his 70s, I think it makes sense to transition the character to another actor. I just hope any reboot doesn't "update" the franchise to present-day. Even the late Cold War (70s/80s) is too recent. Take us back to the 1930s.
  2. Instructions Not Included kinda got lost in the commotion but it was one of the biggest boxoffice stories this year.
  3. Better Call Saul will be available on Netflix, after the season ends next year. Watch it episode by episode or wait until I can binge watch... decisions, decisions...
  4. Thank you sir! Hobbit: $275m CF: $410m Frozen: $305m
  5. Finished The Shield back over the Thanksgiving break. Great series, good finale. Downton Abbey (beginning of S2), Mad Men (beginning of S4), and Parks and Recreation (end of S2) I'm watching but not binging. I hear Dexter is a decent show, I'll start that as well.
  6. druv - where do you think Hobbit2, CF, and Frozen will end up finally (DOM)?
  7. Of course killing off Batman would help solve the problem of continuity (Affleck isn't expected to star in Batman solo movies).
  8. Hopefully pressure from Walt Disney will lead to improved Pixar movies.
  9. I just saw the movie and gave it a C. It was better than I thought. Based on WOM, I was expecting a D/E. Pluses: Nicholas Hoult, the main protagonist was a good casting choice. I thought he did a great job. I also dug the romance between him and the Princess. For some strange reason I liked the fact that the movie took its time with the slow climb up the beanstalk by the kings men and the villain. I felt T-Rex scene in Jurassic Park like tension. Negatives: Bad CGI. Unrealistic reaction to the beanstalk and giants. After the princess' disappearance from the castle and transformation of the beanstalk, the king and his entourage were talking to Jack as if the giant beanstalk wasn't there. No sense of extreme horror/amazement.
  10. Jack and the Giant Slayer - oh brother.... I saw Howl's Moving Castle yesterday.
  11. [*]I really enjoyed how they fleshed out Bard. It was all super logical and fit in very well. [*]Smaug looked AMAZING. [*]The spiders also looked great. It was nice to see some that truly looked and moved like real spiders. [*]Gandalf v. Sauron [*]Balin being the voice of reason in everything. [*]Even though it's corny, Legolas killing orcs in the most fabulous way possible.
  12. People might have said the same thing for Fast n Furious after Tokyo Drift. Studios just need to make good movies. I liked Hobbit 2 so I'm rooting for it but $270-$280 is more likely than $300+
  13. Dallas Buyers Club, Mud, Wolf of Wall Street - The Year of McConaughey
  14. Here we discuss the powers and abilities inherent in the LOTR characters? Who would win in a fight to the death between Radagast vs Galadriel? Is Gandalf the White more powerful than Saruman or the same? Was Sauron more powerful than some of the non-combatant Valar? What are all the powers that Gandalf has? How was he able to defeat a Balrog?

  16. Nice article. I agree with just about all of it. The problem I have is that while I am saddened by the upcoming saturation of ensemble superhero movies (did not know about the X-Men/Fantastic Four project), I will probably see each and every one of them.
  17. Good topic. Ummm... -Oprah Winfrey biopic -Woodrow Wilson biopic -Jim Jones -Iran Contra
  18. Is anyone surprised by the drop from AUJ? I had mid-70s. IMO, PJ did the best anyone could have expected with a children's book stretched into 3 films.
  19. I watched it again and it got better the 2nd time around. Come to think of it, so did AUJ. $800m WW is my bar for success. I think it'll get there but not by much.
  20. I think we're in good hands. Tauriel was non Tolkien and she was one of the best parts of the movie IMO.There is no better director for Tolkien than PJ IMO. The man has a passion for the work and will respect it.
