  1. The Big Short is more likely than Joy. Joy isn't getting Oscar consideration which it would need for 100m. Oscar consideration could let the Big Short leg its way to 100m if everything went right.
  2. I'm trying to decide if I'm more excited for my third viewing of SW7 or first viewing of The Big Short...
  3. There's a pretty big consensus of critics and audience members that'd beg to differ with that opinion. Not saying you can't think that way, but you just saying "It's a 7/10" doesn't mean anything besides you claiming it's a 7/10.
  4. Just because the 5th Season of GoT was weaker than the other 4, and that A Feast for Crows was a waste of a book, doesn't really downplay the rest of the series. I've yet to see another series that for example But that's all off topic.
  5. I'm kind of suspecting that the big twist for this trilogy isn't going to do with relatives, everyone is suspecting it's going to have something to do with relatives, so there's no twist in it. Likely, they'll reveal who Rey's parents are nonchalantly, similar to Kylo Ren's in Episode 7.
  6. I'd disagree, I don't think any relative twist would be too shocking. But there's a few things that have legitimately shocking plot twists. Game of Thrones does it, you can see some of the revelations coming, but unless you already knew from somebody telling you, there are plenty of twists in there nobody saw coming until they happened (and it wasn't like they weren't foreshadowed. If you go back and watch it again, you feel stupid for missing it) Then again, it's not really fair to compare anything to A Song of Ice and Fire, there just aren't that many modern storytellers out there that are managing to do as good of a job as he is. Stephen King might be the only living rival.
  7. If this had Point Break's theaters, and with Oscar nominations, this has much more money making potential than Point Break. With the right expansion, Oscar nominations alone would push it toward at least 60m or so with a Christmas release.
  8. Not only that, but overseas markets were much different when Star wars was released vs Avatar. It's hard to compare WW totals of movies so far apart. It's hard enough to even compare them domestically. You also have to account for 3D, IMAX, and Premium Theaters not being a real thing for Star Wars, like it was for Avatar. Also, Avatar has shown no capability to produce the same kind of long term cultural mark that Star Wars has. If you mention it now, people will simply remark, "That movie with the blue people that ripped off Pocahantas?" or something to that extent. Avatar is certainly big, and we'll see how well its sequels do (if they ever come out), but its not Star Wars.
  9. I could see Rogue One pulling an IM3 to SW7's Avengers (although Avengers isn't even a good comparison to SW7). But a similar concept of Rogue One being a mini-sequel similar to IM3, just on a bigger proportion. Its floor should be 400m, and OW floor 150m.
  10. I'll bet 50 points to two people The Big Short DOM is over 60m 50 points 2 people The Hateful Eight is over 3m DOM this weekend 50 points to 2 people The Big Short is at #2 or #3 this weekend 50 points 2 people Star Wars drop is under 50%
  11. Resigned because they were asked if they would have nominated it? Sounds like a bunch of whiners. Then again, they're critics, for many of them that's what they do for a living (some actually critique).
  12. I'm wondering, we typically have a few Oscar December releasse that hit 100m. The three contenders are Hateful Eight, The Revenant, and The Big Short. Concussion and Joy being failed contenders. So of those three, which (if not all), will hit 100m? I could see The Big Short legging its way there, i'd say it just needs to be over 10m this weekend (and play decently today and tomorrow). It's apparently quite funny and is the type of Oscar film to pick up some legs similar to American Hustle or Wolf of Wall Street. The Revenant should open well because of Leo, it just depends on how the GA receives the movie being torture porn. The Hateful Eight might not actually get a BP nomination, so I might not be able to count it, but it's tracking well and I think 100m should be in store.
  13. I heard an interesting explanation of why Rey was a Solo and not a Skywalker, thematically, and it made sense. Basically, the saga is about choice, how you aren't destined to be dark/light because you are the chosen one, or because your father was a sith lord. So the next step would be to show two twins, and how one chose the dark path and the other the light. How it was choice instead of destiny. Fits into the sagas core theme, and I think I might buy it.

  16. To be fair, Minions didn't really have great WoM. So it's not as much of a stretch as crumbling was.
  17. I need TFA in the context of the next two movies, but my ranking 1.Empire Strikes Back - A+ 2.The Force Awakens - A+ (They did rehash the death star, which nearly made me put ANH above it, but the production and acting values are the best in the saga.) 3.A New Hope - A+ 4.Return of the Jedi - A+ 5.Revenge of the Sith - A- 6.Attack of the Clones - D+ 7.The Phantom Menace - D Honestly, I wish someone could edit the necessary parts of Attack of the Clones and The Phantom Menace and just make Revenge of the Sith a 3 hour film to watch before Return of the Jedi.
