Yep. They are counting on the overseas markets to do the damage but this is pretty standard with almost all sequels these days. They drop domestically and explode in the overseas markets.

GI Joe 2 will easily make around $350 million Worldwide on a reduced production budget. The first one did $300 million so this was a win-win for Paramount.

It made $250 million from the Overseas market. The next one could make $300 million if it is in 3D so they have 400-450 million reasons to make a sequel. See GI Joe 2 : Retaliation.

I think this is a good number. $350 million WW will likely happen with a shot at $400 million if it breaks out domestically.

I think Argo and The Avengers were the only two wide releases that got A+ Cinemascore last year or am I missing some movies ? If it opens to $25 million+ then $100 million should happen.

No, I haven't. It isn't playing near me but I have read a lot of feedback and it would've done very well in wide release. If you have Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling as lead then you need to go with the wide release format.

The Place Beyond The Pines numbers are absolutely stunning for a limited release at this time of the year. They should've spend some money on P&A. This is the sort of movie that could've made 60-70 million with a proper wide release.

Yeah, he is one of my favorites so is Nolan and I don't want Nolan making a romantic movie either. That movie will not be in his comfort zone.Actually I am looking forward to Crimson Peak as long as it is an old school horror that GDT talked about in one of his earlier interviews. I like character driven horror movies and dislike the new found footage fad and for the record I like each of GDT produced horror picture with the exception of Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark, which isn't a bad movie either.

Nope. This is a Box Office forum and 90% of the discussion in this forum is about movies that are to be released in future. People are going to discuss the movie. Some people will diss it without seeing it. Some people like you will rave about it without seeing it either. This is how it is. If you can't deal with the criticism then find another hobby. The fact is that Del Toro has spend last few years catering exclusively to fanboys. Can he make a successful gothic romance ? Maybe but I don't expect him to.

What does GDT know about romance ? Don't get me wrong. He is one of my favorite directors but the man clearly knows more about horror than romance, gothic or otherwise.

My theory is that horror movie endings are almost always divisive and that results in a lower Cinemascore. This is a survey of people exiting the theaters just after watching the movie and if you hate the ending you are not going to give the movie a high rating.

I think it depends on the movie being re-released in 3D. Jurassic Park is one of the very few old movies that actually works in 3D. The scale of the original movie was epic and there aren't that many movies that can compete with Jurassic Park.
