  1. I don't think Django is going to get much traction with the Academy voters either. Maybe it will snag a couple of acting and screenplay nominations.
  2. Anna Karenina isn't doing badly. If it gets a couple of Golden Globes nominations then it can probably leg its way to 20 million.
  3. My thoughts1. Love the recognition for Paperboy and Nicole Kidman.2. I made this point in another thread that studio dumped Perks so it isn't a surprise that it is going to get bypassed. It isn't an Oscar type of movie anyway so don't expect much from academy either.3. I have been saying for months that Lincoln is the actual frontrunner. It isn't controversial or flashy like some other contenders but it is a workhorse movie by one of the most well-respected directors in Hollywood with one of the most well-respected casts you will ever see and a subject matter that AMPAS members will like. Nothing has changed in the past couple of months.4. Backlash against ZDT has already started. My biggest issue with ZDT has always been that it relies on a very small subset of information base to construct its story and a lot of journalists have already started questioning how accurate the movie is. For a movie that is being marketed as a historically accurate investigative journalism, this can seriously hurt.
  4. Summit/LGF is not pushing Perks. Maybe it will get a nomination or two but don't expect too much. I don't think either SAG or GG will spring any surprises this year as the frontrunners are all pretty strong.
  5. ^^^ This is why critics awards are going to become worthless once SAG/GG nominations are announced. They are just trolling at this point by deliberating avoiding the frontrunners.
  6. I think people are underestimating LOP. It has passed the Box Office test which it needed to given its high budget and it will be a factor in this year's race.
  7. Ann Dowd isn't happening. Replace her with Maggie Smith or one of the other Les Miserables ladies.
  8. People like different movies for different reasons. Patriotism is as good of a reason as any other. ZDT will not win Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival but AMPAS membership is overwhelmingly American so it makes sense that a movie like this may win Best Picture and Best Director at the Oscars.
  9. I think Argo will get in because Ben Affleck is also an actor and he has been campaigning hard for the Guilds recognition. I don't think Django is getting in over Argo but I have been wrong about a lot of things this year.
  10. I agree. Les Miz keeps getting very good reception from Guild members and as long as it is a frontrunner for GG, BAFTA and Guild awards it is a frontrunner for the Oscars.
  11. I doubt Chastain cares about this award while she is a front-runner for the Oscars/SAG/GG etc.
  12. Phoenix. Nice. I think he will score SAG nomination too.
  13. They stop being important once SAG and GG nominations are announced. Industry, and by extension AMPAS members, pay more attention to Guilds and Golden Globes nominations.
  14. There is no ZDT steamroll. Critics awards are done. Things will change when SAG and GG nominations are announced. I expect Lincoln to match or exceed ZDT in nominations volume.
  15. Master is killing it at LA. I think that's good and I am hoping for a comeback for Anderson and The Master.
  16. Wilson Morales ‏@blackfilm Hoping @LAFilmCritics recognizes Lorraine Toussaint for @MiddleNowhere
  17. LA Film Critics ‏@LAFilmCritics BEST DOCUMENTARY, Winner: "The Gatekeepers."
  18. Amy Nicholson ‏@TheAmyNicholson Can't say who, but I can say there was a semi-ironic doc vote for KATY PERRY.
  19. LA awards are the only ones that are really influential here and they appear to be doing a good job so far. Other two are meh. Boston could've redeemed themselves by giving Emma Watson a supporting actor but they fucked up.
  20. I am amazed that Emile Hirsch's career didn't take off after this movie.
  21. We should have a forum-wide vote anyway when Academy awards nominations are announced. It will be interesting to see how many winners the forum can correctly call.
  22. Yeah, you should make a top 30 list only if you have seen 300 movies otherwise it will just be a huge mess.
