  1. Nikki is saying $88 million from 37 million Friday. FRIDAY: ‘Skyfall’ Soars To $37M For $88M Weekend In U.S. & Canada As Biggest Of All Bonds With $409M Record-Setting Global; Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln’ Platforms In 11 Runs
  2. I am really getting excited for this movie. The story, director , cast and now Weinsteins are on board too.
  3. I think 90 million is still on the table with 35+ Friday.
  4. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/box-office-report-skyfall-opening-388420 Box Office Report: 'Skyfall' Opening Weekend Eyeing $75 Million Range, Could Hit $80 Mil 5:11 PM PST 11/9/2012 by Pamela McClintock The latest James Bond pic looks to surpass "Quantum of Solace" and "Casino Royale" in its domestic debut after smashing records overseas; Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" doing solid business in limited launch. Sam Mendes' Skyfall is doing bang-up business at the domestic box office and is virtually assured of posting the top debut for any Bond pic, not accounting for inflation. The movie, returning Daniel Craig in the title role for a third time, should open in the $75 million range and could even near $80 million, according to more bullish box office observers. That includes $2.2 million earned in exclusive Imax and other large-format runs on Thursday (the film opened nationwide on Friday).
  5. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118062014.html?cmpid=RSS|News|FilmNews Box Office: 'Skyfall' aiming for $80 million debut Sony-MGM pic playing better-than-expected at U.S. box office By Stuart Oldham James Bond is celebrating his 50th anniversary in style. According to Friday afternoon estimates, Sony-MGM's "Skyfall" is on track for a mammoth $80 million-plus debut, which would mark the highest U.S. opening in 007 history. The 23rd Bond film (and the third starring Daniel Craig) is expected to draw $32 million-$37 million Friday, which includes last night's $4.6 million from Imax and midnight runs. A rep for Sony downplayed the $80 million estimate, saying the studio was eyeing "in the low 70's" for the weekend. Outside B.O. sources beg to differ.
  6. Amy Kaufman ‏@AmyKinLA Whoa: Early ticket sales indicate "Skyfall" will gross over $100 million this weekend. #BoxOffice
  7. Josh Dickey ‏@Variety_JLD Sony reports SKYFALL off to a fast start in North America: $4.6 million from IMAX + midnight shows, early matinees brisk. #SKYFALL
  8. I am seeing quite a few midnight sellouts for Skyfall. Many more that what i was expecting at this point.
  9. FRIDAY 11:30 PM, 2ND UPDATE: CinemaScores are in. Audiences gave Wreck-It Ralph an ‘A’ which should bode well for positive word of mouth and playability through the Thanksgiving holiday as there is little family competition in the marketplace until then. Flight received an ’A-’ which will also help grosses. The Man With The Iron Fists end up with only a ’C+’ which could hurt word of mouth. Refined numbers coming shortly. http://www.deadline.com/2012/11/first-box-office-wreck-it-ralph-flexes-wide-1-with-48m-50m-weekend-flight-takes-off-in-12-as-many-theaters-with-14m-17m-the-man-with-the-iron-fists-6m-10m/#utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
  10. Flight would've opened in the 22-25 million range with a decent theater count (2500-2600).
  11. No Overseas market? This is the perfect movie for asian markets and they shot it in China.
  12. Really great number for Ralph. 50 million+ is pretty much in the same ballpark as summer hits like Brave if you account for Friday being a schoolday. It will be awesome if Flight opens to $20 million from just 1900 theaters.
  13. I think Sandy's affect will be in the 6-7% range for Monday and Tuesday. Things should start getting better on Wednesday.
  14. Weekend estimates from LA Times. Amy Kaufman ‏@AmyKinLA Looks like "Argo" will win wknd w/ only $12m. "Cloud Atlas" barely hits $10m, "Silent Hill" arnd $8m, "Fun Size" @ $4m & "Mavericks" w/ $2m.
  15. I like Owen Wilson but why is anyone paying him $10 million for any role?
  16. Stuart Oldham ‏@s_oldham BOX OFFICE: "Cloud Atlas" evaporating with $13M weekend, "Argo" neck-and-neck with $12.5M.
  17. I haven't checked to see if this has been posted but here is Warners' Awards website. I was surprised to see Magic Mike included in the list.http://warnerbros2012.warnerbros.com/screenings/main.php
  18. This is an interesting idea but I'd rather they try to bring Jolie back. It isn't that difficult to write her into a role and the new movie doesn't have to follow a chronological order. I don't think McEvoy is a big enough name to carry this franchise on his own.
  19. It did so well only because of Jolie. What is with Universal and not getting the point that actors are important in the grand scheme of things. They screwed up Bourne franchise by not bringing back Damon and now they want to continue Wanted without Jolie.
  20. This article is from last year. - About $100,000 for 30 second TV ad on Network channels.http://www.adweek.com/news/television/their-prime-broadcast-spot-costs-soar-132805
  21. Why not? What is the going rate for Primetime ads on NBC, CBS, ABC etc.? That's just US TV market, there is print and internet advertising, international marketing, distribution costs etc. 100 million Worldwide expenses for a mid-budget movie is pretty standard these days. Even for small movies, the cost of marketing is typically in the $20 million range. Kevin Smith didn't even try to sell his movie "Red State" to studios because the production cost of the movie was less than $5 million and big studios don't buy movies unless they are willing to mount a $20-25 million ad campaign to support it.
  22. I think their budget is more hype than real. Chernobyl Diaries supposedly had a very tiny budget but Hollywood Analysts SNL-Kagan called it a flop based on estmates that the movie's actual cost was $89 million when you factor in everything( Production, Worldwide distribution and marketing). For a movie like PA4 the actual cost must be closer to $150 million.
  23. PA2 vs PA3 debate - As the fan universe of franchises like this narrows, they have to make better movies or else fans keep dropping by the wayside. Both PA2 and PA3 may have gotten the same flixster score but PA3 needed a much better score to keep all the fans for the fourth part.
  24. Atlas Shrugged is based on Ayn Rand's novel. I think it has a primarily political audience at this moment so it makes sense that it dropped when going up against a big political event.
  25. So how much will PA4 make? 8-10 million. More ? It is right now #2 on Fandango so early sales appear to be good and I am assuming that most of them should be for midnight shows.
