  1. Holdovers typically get decimated during December holidays because of the insane volume of new releases. Seven movies are set to be released between 21st and 25th of December so don't expect big things from November releases during that time-frame.
  2. Pi had a very strong sunday hold. May mean good things for its legs.
  3. Best Supporting Actress is typically the weakest field out of all awards categories every year. It was even worse last year so McCarthy nomination wasn't really a surprise.
  4. Please go back and play with your Miranda Otto voodoo dolls. I am dicussing a completely different movie and a completely different character here.
  5. The Help was a terrible movie so I don't blame Chastain for that role but that role had no redeeming quality.
  6. Yep, she played a caricature with no depth and had very little screen time. Didn't deserve a nomination. It is just that people wanted to award The Help. The movie itself wasn't that great so they went with as many acting awards as they could.
  7. Actresses better than Chastain in The Help.1. Viola Davis2. Octavia Spencer3. Bryce Dallas HowardAll characters in the movie are caricatures but Chastain's character was completely over the top, exaggerated caricature that you can find. She shouldn't have been nominated for the role.
  8. Adele's demographics is mostly female and most of them are between the ages of teens and 30s. I am mystified that people can't see the obvious here. It was a huge worldwide marketing effort that used London Olympics among other things to target (mostly males) action fans and it paid off. Nobody pays 10 bucks to see a movie just because their favorite singer is on the soundtrack.
  9. I doubt all the 25 year old + males flocking to see the movie know who Adele is. The movie isn't doing that well with 14 year old females. It is the marketing aimed at older males that is bringing people to the theaters.
  10. I think it helped that Bond was a big marketing event. They even used London Olympics and its Worldwide audience of billions to market Bond and the new movie. Things don't happen without a reason.
  11. I don't think Les Mis is going to beat Lincoln when everything is said and done.
  12. The Muppets opened with $6.5million on the equivalent Wednesday last year so it is possible that ROTG opens with similar number and finishes number 3.
  13. I will appreciate it if you can get Silver Linings Playbook numbers too when you check back.
  14. There are movies that can make little money at the Box Office and still compete at the Oscars and there are movies that can't. Lincoln could have made $15 million and still be able to compete because of the story and people invloved. A movie like Cloud Atlas can't, Life Of Pi can't and even a movie like SLP can't.
  15. We are unlikely to see a sweep this year but Lincoln is the only movie that looks like it can win all major awards. BP,BD,actor etc.
  16. My guess is that they over-estimated its previews/midnights. This makes sense if you look at its Saturday and Sunday numbers. Monday drop is going to tell the story and anything over 10.5 million means it has a shot at 300 million.
  17. Pitch Perfect has flown completely under the radar but that $61 million number is very impressive.
  18. SLP had a good limited opening. Its biggest test will come this week. i think it needs to do something in the mid single digits (>= $10k PTA).
  19. Twilight Breakdown Nov 18, 2012 $28,456,648 Nov 17, 2012 $41,443,147 Nov 16, 2012 $71,167,839 It seems less frontloaded than BD1. Lost to BD1 on FRI by half a million, beat it by 1.4 and 2 million on SAT and SUN respectively.
  20. I agree with you but SLP wasn't supposed to be a platform release. It was a last minute decision.
  21. Yep, most people understand that the projections are made on the basis of incomplete data.
  22. I think SLP and AK did well. SLP 450k and AK 315k from 16 theaters each is not bad when you consider the competition they had to face.
